Just a question about Muslim and Sikh jatts

Hey everyone I just wanted to get your opinions on something that a friend and I had observed,

We were comparing Muslim and Sikh jatts that we knew and had seen around before and it seemed as though the Muslim jatts were a little bit darker as compared to the Sikh jatts and even a little shorter. Now we are not sure where all of them come from because I would assume that the ones who come from the Saraiki parts of Punjab would look a little different than the ones of Central Punjab and Indian Punjab.

I think someone on this forum (not sure who) had said something about Muslim jatts sometimes having higher SI and lower NE Euro as compared to the Sikh jatts but I haven't seen a lot of Muslim jatt samples as compared to Sikh jatt samples. Could this be why some seem to be darker?

I know the topic of skin colour is sometimes a touchy subject in South Asia so Im sorry if I have offended anyone, I am just curious.

Thank you for any help and replies in advance!

I think this would be better in the phenotype thread.

I can't really answer the phenotype question as I haven't met enough Muslim Punjabi Jatts but it is certainly true that Muslim Central Punjab Jatts are more likely to be admixed with non Punjabi Jatts of Pakistan than their Central/East Punjabi Sikh counterparts. I imagine it's only rural Central Punjab Jatts who were recent converts that haven't admixed to some extent with other Pakistani Punjabi biradaris.

However, I will state that the few % differences in Harappa scores between Central Punjab Muslim Jatts and Jatt Sikhs is certainly not any reason for phenotype differences. In fact, some individuals like the forum member Zuran (family are recent converts) and another Bajwa Muslim Jatt with origins in East Punjab score identical to Jatt Sikhs.

That is one individual. I don't think posting individuals will be useful for any relevant phenotype comparisons between Muslim Central Punjab Jatts and Jatt Sikhs. I'm curious though. What is their sub clan? Is it one that overlaps with Central Punjab like Cheema, Bajwa, Warraich, Sandhu, Maan, etc?

If we can get Jatt kits from Pakistanis we could settle this debate. The Sheiks (Khatri Muslims) I had found on Harappa also sometimes had higher SI. Makes sense as they marry into other Biradris, Pakistani Punjab seems to have a good population of PJL B, C, D so in the long run I wonder if the population starts becoming more uniformly mixed.

Sheikh are not always Khatri converts , many Brahmin converts also use Sheikh , also some Dalits also use Sheikh. I reckon sheikhs from Chiniot are for sure Khatris. But I think there is definitely a difference among Punjabis some have higher NE Euro others have higher Caucasus/Baloch, but how it shows on phenotype is a very complex debate and rather subjective.

I’ve already seen some Jatt Muslim results. There are roughly 3 types. Ones scoring like Pahari Jatts (despite Central Punjab clans), ones showing significant non Jatt admixture and ones scoring identical to Jatt Sikhs.

@sopporro , do you have results of any Seraiki Jatts?
