Interesting, what is a price for each category? I hope it is not so expensive as the original tests at FTDNA cost.

what is the point of transferring a 30x sequence for ancestry purposes? I was under the impression they only look at a small segment(s) for autosomal purposes. I've even transferred normal ancestry dna files as well as .bam derived .4x sequenced Nebula data to Gedmatch, the latter having a lot data but the end results were almost identical

So I logged into my Nebula account and was reading on this. From what I gather, you basically transfer your 30x Nebula data and FTDNA does a Big Y, mtDNA and Family finder autosomal test. So basically it saves FTDnA the need to do the lab work. I might have misunderstood but that’s what I gathered.

1) If you don't have a FamilyFinder test, it's $80 you don't need to spend to get in their matching database. It's small but there are some unique samples from people who like to keep everything there.

2) WGS results can be reprocessed anytime they decide to update the chip panels to fill in the blanks instead of needing to retest like you do periodically with 23andMe.

3) You get the sex haplogroups on their trees.

Last year's holiday sale for for Family Finder had a $49 price. They oftentimes have it on sale for $59 but usually they have a big push starting in November so I expect it to be $49 or $59 again soon.

You probably never have to pay the $79 price if you are patient.

To me, the big benefit of transferring your Nebula data to them would be to get a detailed Y DNA haplogroup and placement on a branch of the Y FTDNA tree with 34,000 branches and 313,000 Y variants.

Right. And that makes sense to keep all eggs in one basket so to speak. But it’s not anything different than an autosomal ancestry test. It’s a normal autosomal test using the available data. Is the “deep” part because they include haplogroups with your autosomal rest as well? I guess I’m hung up on what’s so deep about it if all it is is an autosomal test using the 30x data.

As far as I understand it's only "deep" because it includes haplogroups.

I am expecting my results in about a month and if the partnership is completed by then I might even skip Yfull for now. I think exploring my bigY will keep me entertained for a while.
