    How I use this is to create a Variants-Branch cross-reference file. I list all variants and then beside them i list the haplogroup label (with the lead SNP) of the block it fits in. I also number every branch so that it has a branch sequence # and a layer/level #. I just do this for R1b so R-M343 is position (1,1), for sequence # 1 and layer #1.

    I use all of this is in a spreadsheet for the R1b project I call the gold spreadsheet. Along with the STRs and MDKA/origins info I list haplogroup as assigned by FTDNA, the lead haplogroup label on the tree for that block it is in and the sequence and level numbers. This is way I can effectively sort by long haplogroup label, a way which conforms to the tree structure.

    I got it completed. Mike, I can use it to generate a file like you want. Send me an private message or email. You
    probably have my email address.

    There are mistakes in it. I checked downstream of CTS4179 against my own tree, and rechecked
    the differences versus BAM and new VCF files. The mistakes are caused by different men
    being on different sides of the "need ten SNPs to call" line. These particular ones
    are minor.

    My dad got in his results:
    went from R1b->U152->L2->L20

    to now:
    R1b->U152->L2->L20->Z291->BY34053->BY161311->BY162100
    (there is our one BigY match who sits below this at BY160960 for the current twig along this line)

    My dad is one of only two who appear on FTDNA for all of Latvia to score even so much as R1b->L20 and it's rare in general in the Baltics plus Eastern Europe.
    Strictly paternal ancestor traced to a seemingly ethnic Baltic serf but it would seem that farther back there must have been an out of wedlock with some roving trader, soldier from Western Europe or with some Baltic German baron or working class guy and local ethnic Baltic serf girl.

    He has zero STR111 or 67 matches and a father/son pair (distance 3) at STR37 who trace strictly paternal line to mid-1800s Germany/Prussia town now Wroclaw, Poland and to one guy (distance 4) who traces strictly paternal line to 1600s in Slovakia a bit under the Polish border. The father/son pair and the other guy do not share the same surname.

    A very interesting find, congrats! It does not necessarily have to be a result of an NPE. Surnames among the peasantry were still not 100% stable in the course of XVIth or even XVIIth century, at least in Eastern Europe. It may very well be a result of some German settler having married and integrated into a predominantly Latvian-speaking community which gave him a new nickname that took on a role of a surname. I have seen this many times in Poland.

    Judging by a couple of Big Y-700 tests we're waiting on in a couple of my projects, it looks all the Big Y-700s have been delayed at least a couple of weeks.

    Results are coming in here; what bugs me at the moment is the very slow loading time.
