    Brahmin Genetics

Hey guys! Something that I don't understand: Brahmins are the highest cast in SA. However, if you look at their genetics, they score decently high South Indian in Harappa compared to other populations. Some even score similar to Southern Indians. So my question is: why are they considered upper casts if they aren't that many genetic differences between them and Central Indians?

They score much higher steppe than their surrounding populations.

Because they mixed with South Indians a lot more than others. They spread the toolkit so they mixed with elites of that area.

This, their scores stand out in comparison to their neighbors populations, except NW.

NWers have proportionally higher IranN to Steppe than Brahmins. Southerners have higher AASI and IranN to Steppe proportions than the Brahmins.

Not the case among haryana jats and rors and some Sikh jatts. When I saw NW I'm considering Kashmiri Pandits and Jammuites and Himachali brahmin part of it. And they seem to prefer Iran N over steppe.

On harappa sheet, Punjabi brahmins are identical or same steppe as generic midcastes. To me it seems like the Brahmins here most likely originated from what the local population is originated from rather than outsiders in other parts of SA.

Clearly, Haryana Jatts and Rors are exceptional cases and cannot be applied to other NWers.

Khatris and Jatt sikhs shouldn't be excluded either. Even I score identical to punjabi brahmins, and based on different NW groups kits we've collected, most of them seem to be same or slightly less steppe than me. Except Nai which is highest Iran N in a Punjabi so far.

Kashmiri, Jammuite and Himachali Bromins still make a decent chunk of Brahmin population of north. Historically Brahmins moved from North to South, so they originated in same areas as us.

I definitely agree about the location origin. Can we see other Ramgharias if they score similar to Brahmins? Also, the Harappa does not have a clean breakdown needed for this, so let’s ignore it in this case. Wish we had more g25 Punjabi amd Kashmiri ones, but Rahul and Bored sort of fill in.

Can’t tell about other Brahmin groups precisely, but I can see NW Brahmin who score like this forming a good chunk of ancestry of Nepali Brahmins before inheriting minor extra NE Asian (2-5% in excess). But who knows migration stories are very complex and people tend to have ancestries from all over the place.
