    New Raw DNA File Format

For new DNA testers FTDNA has an unannounced new format for their raw DNA files. For now these new format raw DNA files do not work at GEDmatch and MyHeritage.

My guess is that the raw data file format change is due to FTDNA moving to a new DNA testing chip.

Sure would be nice if FTDNA would inform the paying customers exactly what is going on with their DNA tests and DNA file formats.

I hope it is not the end of the game.

If I understand correctly, Living DNA added a number of SNPs in its latest version (went to a different vendor). Wouldn't it be something if Living DNA is closer to the original Family Finder than the new FF version is.

I just noticed this change. Why didn't they announce it? The file is a bit smaller than old format.

Still more SNPs on GEDnatch than in 23andMe v5, but slightly fewer than in old FTDNA format.

    Same with MyHeritage:

The one on top is 23andMe V5 whereas the one below it is FTDNA.

but are all of the current SNPs part of a subset of the old SNPs?

Its just a STUPID file format change that won't last as-is. All the SNPs are there.
Its smaller because there are no longer two useless quotation marks for each field.

Its also, of course, in a different order.

Will they take it back to the old format, or leave out the useless quotes?

I double-checked it and the new file does not have fewer SNPs than the old ones.

Here is a comparison in one of GEDmatch calculators:

Father (old format) - 158447 SNPs
Mother (old format) - 158560 SNPs

Cousin (new format) - 159170 SNPs

Only my own raw data has more, but it is from 2016, so older than the other three:

    162349 SNPs used
