    GEDmatch results using AncestryDNA

So I uploaded my Raw Data into GEDmatch and ran the Eurogenes K36 Admixture. These are my results:

    Basque 2.80 Pct
    Central_Euro 7.56 Pct
    East_Balkan 3.85 Pct
    East_Central_Euro 11.31 Pct
    Eastern_Euro 2.06 Pct
    Fennoscandian 8.74 Pct
    French 7.64 Pct
    Iberian 12.04 Pct
    Italian 4.43 Pct
    North_African 1.26 Pct
    North_Atlantic 18.53 Pct
    North_Caucasian 2.08 Pct
    North_Sea 16.10 Pct
    West_African 0.32 Pct
    West_Med 1.28 Pct

    Ancestry results:

62% England, Wales, and Northwestern Europe
    23% Ireland and Scotland
    7% Germanic Europe
    5% Sweden
    3% Norway

    Prior to update:

    26% Europe West
    26% Ireland, Scotland, Wales
    23% Great Britain
    14% Scandinavian
--------------------------- (everything below this line dropped out of estimate in new Ancestry update)
    5% Iberian Peninsula
    3% Europe East
    2% Africa North
    <1% European Jewish

So what do I make of GEDmatch's results? What is the different between the Eurogenes K13 and K36 Admixtures?

K13 uses 13 regions of ethnicity and K36 uses 36. The more regions you add can make the results not as accurate, or more speculative. That said, run k13 and then click the oracle , both 2 way and 4 way tabs and post results. Those will give you a breakdown that may or may not align with your background. What you are seeing is a statistical representation of what your ethnicity may or may not be. its not always accurate though. in fact it is often not at all. The calculators, while helpful, are outdated and I am pretty sure they are not updated anymore and havent been for some time/. Your best bet is to get G25 coordinates from the Eurogenes blog and apply those to the may nMonte calculators that people are creating.

What do these mean exactly? How do I go about getting the coordinates?

Im not the best at explaining this but its how your autosomal results might compare to that specific population, or something like that.
read this for a better explanation:

    http://genealogical-musings.blogspot...ure-guide.html

Regarding the G25, you need to e-mail David from the Eurogenes blog and send him $12 and your raw data. he will do something with that data and the result is coordinates that you can plug into the G25 calculators floating around. Its frequently updated with more samples etc.. so its supported vs GedMatch admix calculators which I believe are no longer supported

The Gedmatch calculators are primarily "admixture" analysis and will divide your results into percentages/buckets/categories based on the categories that you see in the percentages. These can be "unsupervised" - more or less the design program is allowed to pick the logical categories based on the pile of input data used when the calculator was created OR "supervised" - more or less the calculator designer took some control over the groups, usually to force an extra category or two that wouldn't naturally fall out of the analysis. The designer has some choice on the number of categories that are published, hence the "K9", "K10", etc. These don't require constant updating to be useful. The basic admixture analysis can be interesting in its own right, but won't necessarily reveal your ethnic background on its own. It is good to run several of them to see if any patterns develop. There are other things you can do with these, such as chromosome painting, matching with others on Gedmatch to find relatives, comparing the areas you match to see if minor ancestry is shared, etc.

Also, many of the calculators have the "Oracles" developed as a secondary output. Many mistake this for the primary output and declare the calculators as dated because they don't always produce the best results. The Oracles provide spreadsheets of results that are typical of certain regions and your results can be run against the spreadsheet to see if you are a close match to one of the patterns or if some easy mix of two or more patterns can represent your results. The "distance" tells you how close the match is. If you are not too mixed in background, the better calculator's single-population Oracle results are usually in the ballpark of your actual ancestry. If you happen to be some even mix of one, two, three, or four backgrounds, you may get a reasonable combination to be produced in the Oracle 4 results, or if you are some basic two-part mix that isn't quite as even, the "Oracle" result may be close. Most of those that aren't happy with the Gedmatch calculators usually are pointing to these, because they aren't always too helpful. Frankly, the Global 25 coordinates that you can get from the Eurogenes store used with nMonte can produce much better models if this is what you are interested in doing.

    I hope that helps.

Yes, if you would like to get your G25 coordinates, see here:

    http://eurogenes.blogspot.com/2017/1...ore-to-be.html

If you have a computer you can set up the program yourself. If you donít have a computer or donít feel confident in doing that on your own, you can use Poiís online G25 Web Runner. See here:
