I uploaded my dad's yesterday. If you go into your mtDNA results with FTDNA, there is a place to download the FASTA file at the bottom of the results page.

Hi, I have not tested mtDNA, on FTDNA, was wondering if there was a way to get this from LivingDNA or 23amdme.

YFull said on their Facebook page that they are only accepting full sequence mtDNA. 23andme and LivingDNA only test a portion of mtDNA SNPs.

Just to point out that if you test with FGC/Dante/YSEQ-WGS you should have the mtDNA in your BAM, likewise the old BigY used to include it too so will already be on YFull if you uploaded before. I am hoping to appear automatically.

They have uploaded a ton of scientific samples which is good but may skew the data, for example I've mentioned in the H5r thread that a lot of it was picked up in an Italian research project but later commercial testing hasn't supported the idea of an origin in Italy, although its still a possibility.

Thanks, it’s a shame that FTDNA, has stripped it from their BAM export, I am unsure how much more resolution I can get better than J2a1a1a anyway, but would have been nice to have Imported somehow to YFULL.

Yes - YFull will also extract mtDNA data from a FGC YElite (and FGC do this as well in your results from them), and the results on your YFull profile and it looks like that goes on their M tree. It's not directly linked to your current YFull ID (different randomly generated kit number) unless you add that in account settings, mtDNA, privacy settings. YFull give the option of uploading a FASTA to cover any no calls or ambiguous reads in from the extraction of the Y BAM - similar to the upload of Y111 STRs to fill in the gaps. They're also offering folks who have a YFull account there to upload one FASTA per kit without paying the fee - say Big Y testers who have uploaded to YFull but also have done mtDNA full sequence or equivalent.

You could look at their Mtree for what's currently below there - there appear to be a few options downtream - if the 23andme test covers some of the downstream SNPs you could rule out some descendant clades https://www.yfull.com/mtree/J2a1a1a/

Cool, I might look into this one. Interesting that they have two J2a1a1e's from Israel. I don't remember ever seeing them on FTDNA!

There are only 3 others on YFull with my dad's haplogroup and unfortunately none give a place of origin so I have no idea of a possible origin. It's similar for my great grandfather's haplogroup with only four people having it on YFull and no origin given. There are 37 with my haplogroup with one giving an origin in Denmark, one in Sweden and one in Russia so that might indicate a Scandinavian origin.
