I doubt U2e was formed in India. If I had to take a guess I'd say Central or North Asia.

When I got 23andme results back in 2012 saying I am U2e1a (now I know I'm more specifically U2e1a1 according FTDNA), all my research pointed to a South Asian origin 10 to 50 kya. Of course it spread out to Central Asia, then Eastern Europe, then finally Central/North/West Europe; very Indo-European.

From what I understand, U2e subclades descend from deep clades from Upper Paleolithic Europe. (See Goyet, Karelia EHG, Blatterhohle WHG, Motala SHG, etc.)

Thank you for the information. I wasn't necessarily claiming a South Asian origin as fact, it's just what I had gathered from my searching. Of course it doesn't make sense that my mother of Irish/English/German descent would have an Indian mtdna. Do you know the origin of U2e1a1 in particular?
