    eye color spectrum

In the Journal of Optometry (2008), Luuk Franssen Joris E. Coppens, Thomas J.T.P. van den Berg did the following attempt.

    Purpose
To present a new iris pigmentation classification system based on comparison of iris pigmentation to a set of 24 standard eye photographs, with the aim of gaining on accuracy and on applicability for retinal straylight studies.

    Methods
A reference set of 24 eye photographs was established by ranking the photographs from least (number 1) to most (number 24) iris pigmentation. Reproducibility was tested by grading a sample of 67 eye photographs with this reference set.

    Results
The overall variation between observers was 1.46 on a scale of 0 to 25.

    Conclusion
The new method is promising to be more accurate than existing iris color classification systems in clinical situations where objective colorimetry-based systems are not available. The method may be useful to assess iris translucency and fundus reflectance as sources of variation in retinal straylight.

Okay what's your opinion? Is this accurat? And for fun: what's your place in the spectrum, mine is on place 20 ('chestnut'), yours?

Mine are a bit hard to pinpoint because they kind of change colour depending on lightening. They look like this but under poor lightening they just appear regular light brown. My mother is perhaps 18, father maybe 21 or 22. I got lighter eyes than either of them, but both have mothers with lighter eyes aswell (14/15), which I probably partially inherited.

    The missus is a 7 or 8.

I think my dad is 15 and mum 17. Mine looks different depending on the light, sometimes they look blue and sometimes green. My left eye has a segment of hazel. Think closest looking to mine is probably 9. My maternal grandmother and paternal grandfather had light eyes. According to 23andme I likely have brown eyes

I guess the amber-cognac-honey continuum fits me well, but I have a hard time giving it a number
