When I take my family in account we are kind of mixture between light features/blond with some darkish/brown (my grandma was very high blond with very light greyblue eyes, my mom is kind of darkish, as kid she was dark auburn and so fort). I guess in my region about 80% is light featured. I guess on vacation this means kind of luck for me no need to keep much in the shadow
Lille is in Flanders ... the flat country
I remember those road signs that, in Belgium, announced the approach of a city named Rijsel! Which was a bit confusing for a "southerner" like me.

I think I'm a 3 or 4 on that optometry chart in the original post. I have blue eyes like my mother. My dad had brown eyes but carried the recessive variant for blue eyes.

Here's what DNA Land says for me:

My wife hates the word Rijssel....I guess Belgians use that word, the people from the Lille area don't use Rijssel (?). My father in law is a proud Frenchman (he talks constantly French with our little baby...legacy and Lille (place of birth of Charles de Gaulle!) gives me the impression of the most Northern French stronghold. More nothwestwards of Lille there is indeed the French Flanders zone, there they did speak until century ago or so partly a Dutch influenced dialect (Flamandes) .But isn't that the heartland of ffoucart,I guess he is far more knowledgeable on this item then I am.

I'm not really sure what my eyes would be, maybe a slightly darker version of 7.

I am slightly to the right of the apex for blue eyes on DNA Land.

Hi Pylsteen 21-22 is that due to your partly Indonesian roots? I'm curios if there are more members with "chocolate" , "russet" or "nut" (22,23,24, or 97% brown).

I guess for someone with only a NW European (in casu only North Dutch) background I have the idea that my eyes (20) are almost the 'darkest' brown variant....but may be I'm wrong.....

I am a 14 or 15, but with a thicker limbal ring, which partly covers the greyish outer edge.

When I look at the position of OCA2 and HERC2 genes that seem important for eye colour, I see many of the SNPs are somewhere around position 27/28million at chrom 15. On that part, I have Jewish matches from my father's side, indeed my Jewish gg-grandmother had dark brown eyes. My mother has brown-hazel eyes, from her father who was from the islands south of Rotterdam. I think I got those brown alleles from her side too. My other grandparents have blue eyes which my sister inherited.
