The 3 samples we added are from a graveyard with bodies dating 600 to 1300 AD and have a closest link to modern Irish - but with some distance. They seem much closer to ancient samples which makes one suspect modern Irish have changed since. This could be due to Viking invasions or some other migrations. These samples were pulled as part of a control experiment of people over many centuries from the same graveyard making it tricky to pinpoint an exact date or background. There have been numerous digs in this area but they have focused on say black death victims. Hope this helps!

I have to say they have excellent customer service. They are very helpful.

It is interesting that they say that migrations might have changed the modern Irish. I have heard from another source there is evidence of admixture in the Irish in the later medieval period. Very interesting and intriguing.
We'll have to see what happens if they add more samples. What are your match levels with the Icelandic Gaels?

I'm matching one of these at 8.366 / 18 on my list. I really doubt that I'm more representative of the Irish of old than you are. I think it's more likely this is a coverage problem or these samples found in Ireland were from somewhere else.

Paper trail ancestry to the best of my knowledge:
English (possibly containing some Welsh ancestry) 31.25%, Scottish 17.96%, Scotch-Irish 12.5%, Eastern German 12.5%, Eastern European (Likely Polish possibly including Romanian) 12.5%, French 7.81%, Native American (Saulteaux and Assiniboine) 2.34%, and Colonial American, 3.125%, which cannot be traced with certainty. With certainty, there is Dutch (at least 1.36%) and some English.

And at 2.699 that's a really close distance. Do you have the ones labelled as "Gaelic Settler Viking Iceland"?
My thinking here is that if you match this Icelandic set of Gaels but not the other ones, then it seems more likely than not that the Kilteasheen ones might have something off about them, especially considering all the great data we have on the Icelandic Gaels from the Scotland Genetic paper.

Hmmm.. I don't know why this might be. I think we need an alternative form of analysis to check what the reasons for this might be.
If we had those Kilteasheen samples and the Icelandic samples on Global 25 I wonder what it would show us.
If you're willing to post them, I'd be very interested to see your top ten. I had just assumed they would have been these Icelandic samples.

    Edit:

I asked someone who is much more expert than I and they told me that the Kilteasheen samples are of poor quality. That's probably the best explanation.

That's a shame but there should be plenty on the way once Lara Cassidy releases her papers.
