    Understanding Gedmatch results?

Hi, I'm not too new when it comes to genetics but one thing I can never understand is the whole oracle of gedmatch.

Basically, I don't understand the oracle thing too well and I'm a mix. I'm mainly Danish and English I guess.

One question I really want to understand though is, does it mean I'm mostly Danish due to Danish appearing the most?

    AncestryDNA:
    51% England & Northwestern Europe
14% Sweden (I think this is also mistaken for Danish)
    14% Germanic Europe
    12% Eastern Europe & Russia
    5% Ireland & Scotland
    3% Southern Asia
    1% Baltic States

    Using 1 population approximation:
    1 North_German @ 6.037610
    2 Austrian @ 8.087442
    3 East_German @ 8.382998
    4 West_German @ 8.554997
    5 Danish @ 8.805140
    6 Swedish @ 9.287404
    7 South_Dutch @ 9.501641
    8 North_Dutch @ 9.741128
    9 Norwegian @ 10.702933
    10 Southeast_English @ 11.296750
    11 North_Swedish @ 11.453965
    12 Orcadian @ 11.596455
    13 Hungarian @ 11.884341
    14 Irish @ 12.672254

    18 Croatian @ 18.151600
    19 South_Polish @ 18.200836
    20 Southwest_Finnish @ 18.207615

    Using 2 populations approximation:
    1 50% Danish +50% Hungarian @ 3.376240

    Using 3 populations approximation:
    1 50% Danish +25% North_Swedish +25% Romanian @ 2.993539

    Using 4 populations approximation:

    1 Danish + Danish + North_Swedish + Romanian @ 2.993539

The closest population resembling your admixture are North Germans as per your oracles, though the distance of 6 isn't the best. Your two population approximation says you resemble someone who's Half Danish and Half Hungarian with a decent distance. Keep in mind that oracles can vary within reference sets set up for various gedmatch calculators.

I see. How far away is the distance of 6 for Northern Germans, as in, how closely related does that put me to other Northern Germans?

Pretty close, as your 4 population approximation indicates (though with a shift towards Central Europe)

    Hungarian + North_German + North_German + North_German @ 3.160857

If you're of Danish, English, Polish and German ancestry (assuming from your flags), then the oracles do make sense.

Yes, that's correct. Thank you. I'm guessing Hungarian can be "mistaken" as Polish or other neighboring countries?

Yeah, Hungarians are not that far off from some Poles. I think in your case, that is probably what is happening for sure.

I see. I have another question, although it says Danish as my 5th closest population by 8, is it possible that North German can be interpreted as the Germanic English (Anglo-Saxons), Danes or the Saxons that inhabit(ed) Northern Germany?

Hmm, not sure how to answer that, but your ancestry being North European largely, with a Central European shift from the Polish sides gives you a somewhat 'North German' profile. In any case though, most Northern Europeans are rather similar relatively in comparison to other populations. So, in essence Anglo-Saxons and modern English are pretty similar to (some) Germans overall.
