New Ethnicity Estimate Update Scheduled For Later This Year (2019)

    https://blogs.ancestry.com/ancestry/...dna-customers/

Ancestry's blog post mentions that they will do an update later this year and it will include new regions. They will also be releasing new genetic communities.
Known ancestry through paper trail: English, Scottish (Ayrshire), Irish (Ulster, Dublin), minor amount of Welsh, German (Saarland), Dutch, minor amounts of Swiss (Zurich), French, Italian (North Italy), and a very small amount of Native American (Chowanoke/Chowanoc).

    23andMe (V4) 90% Confidence Level: 56.1% Broadly NW European, 9% British & Irish, 0.4% Scandinavian, 0.2% Finnish, 32.3% Broadly European, 0.2% Native American, 1.8% Unassigned

It seems likely that this might be for some of the less well served regions outside Europe, but I hope it's across the board.
    Living DNA Cautious mode:
    Wales-related ancestry: 86.8%
    Cornwall: 8%
    North England-related ancestry: 5.2%
    Y line: Peak District, England. Big Y match: Scania, Sweden; TMRCA 1,280 ybp (YFull);
    mtDNA: traces to Glamorgan, Wales
Mother's Y: traces to Llanvair Discoed, Wales

Exciting stuff. Maybe this is why they are getting rid of people’s old ethnicity results in July to make room for a new update. I wouldn’t expect much change in my kits (100% British Isles) but perhaps they will be able to go more granular on the regions. Depends how many samples they have now.

Definitely looking forward to more GCs

Hope they have more North American Indian populations. They'd be the first to go this granular there.

Regions and genetic communities, but are ethnicity estimates planned to change when they just rolled out their last update to everyone in May that was slow on the uptick? I mean, they still have a problem with Germanic/Northwestern Europe. Of my dad, mom, and brother I was the only one to get Germanic Europe in my results (at 7%). There are native Germans in my tree from my mother's side from 1820s.

"Thanks to the largest consumer DNA network, AncestryDNA is preparing another update for later this year which will include new ethnic regions and providing many members with a more detailed view of their heritage."

The way I understand this, is that the ethnicity estimate will be updated later this year. They also mentioned GCs, but from what I've seen this is only French in America and English ancestry only so far.

    https://www.ancestry.com/cs/ancestrydna-regions-update

I hope the GCs get updated for the rest of us. I've got 32% Germanic Europe with no GC. I'm sure some of that is French, which is why I don't have one. I'd add that I hope the future update will be able to separate continental Europe a little better than the 2018 update, which has been confusing for me.
