The closest to Norway sample 127, so 3/4 of the samples ranked closer to Norway. This is using nMonte to rank the samples.

I'll quote what you said .
When I run all B&I samples including firemonkey to see how they are related to Norway and Sweden, firemonkey came 30 out of 127 B&I samples tested,
I'm not sure how that relates to Norway sample 127. For me someone saying you come 30 out of 127 would be based on 1/127 being the person with the most Norwegian and Swedish. You seem to have flipped that so 1/127 would be the least Norwegian and Swedish .

I'm not saying your wrong, just that your explanation leaves a lot to be desired.

And, if I remember correctly, he plots among the British & Irish, not with the Swedes or Scandinavians. So I’m not sure how useful he is as a comparison, in a situation like this.
Yes that's true but Irish, British, Norwegians, Icelandics, Dutch and Swedes (& now Bretons who have been added) are all very close on the G25. My second closest population on the G25 after Irish is Icelandic so personally I feel that a lot of this is close genetic distance but I'm not too sure if it really corresponds to admixture.

We don't really know if that Viking is really British/Irish or Norwegian because all these populations tend to cluster together and some Norwegian might fall a bit closer to British populations. That's just my take on it. Icelandic used to be my no 1 population in the G25 but I think Davidski must have added more Irish so that now they are my no 1 pop.

These are my top pops. Celts, Anglos & Scandinavians all in the mix.

There is no grouping really even along Irish & British. So I look on this as more population similarity and genetic distance than it showing actual ancestry.

There is no grouping really even along Irish & British. So I look on this as more population similarity and genetic distance than it showing actual ancestry.

While it’s true we don’t really know what his origins were. We do know the populations his seems to match. We can also see how representative he is, by checking him against the rest of the Viking samples. And for the most part, he’s not very representative. As an experiment, I tried running myself against the rest of the (13) Sigtuna Vikings and my Vikings numbers dropped from 24% to the low single digits, once he was removed. Which would indicate he’s having an outsized effect on people from the British Isles.

Of course, it’s goes without saying, that all of our populations are very similar and often do overlap. Then again, they can also be differentiated, too. As the Fit Checks below suggest.

Perhaps, it’s a minor point but it always comes to mind, whenever I see Sigtuna these days. Especially, when that particular sample shows up as an individual. As I don’t think he’s the best sample to use, if you’re British & Irish and you want to know how much Swedish Viking you have

Be that as it may, these 7 are fairly representative of the 11 Sigtuna samples that aren’t showing an affinity to the British Isles. While Sigtuna_vic_grt035 (at the bottom) is probably the strongest example of the three samples with British affinity.

I tried what is probably a crap model with the Swedish Viking you mentioned. You have 8 gtm021 then 2 stg021. I guess you meant to have 10 gtm021. That is what I went with.

There's no Viking there. I accept my model is probably crap. If someone could please test me on a better model that would be great.

I’m probably not the best person to be designing models for other people but I would suggest running your coordinates against the Ancient Population Averages and see what population nMonte picks out for you. This would have the benefit of smoothing out the effects of any close individuals. If you can, increase the batches to 500 and the cycles to 750 or a 1000. Which is supposed to be more accurate. Then you could try building a model based on the different eras that show up. Or accept the results on their own, as if they were a reasonable model or a designed calculator. Which is what ph2ter seems to be implying here:

    https://anthrogenica.com/showthread....l=1#post578887
    Known Paper Trail: 45.3% English, 29.7% Scottish, 12.5% Irish, 6.25% German & 6.25% Italian. Or: 87.5% British Isles, 6.25% German & 6.25% Italian.
    LivingDNA: 88.1% British Isles (59.7% English, 27% Scottish & 1.3% Irish), 5.9% Europe South (Aegian 3.4%, Tuscany 1.3%, Sardinia 1.1%), 4.4% Europe NW (Scandinavia) & 1.6% Europe East, (Mordovia).
    FT Big Y: I1-Z140 branch I-F2642 >Y1966 >Y3649 >A13241 >Y3647 >A13248 (circa 830 AD) >A13242/YSEQ (circa 975 AD) >A13243/YSEQ (circa 1550 AD).

You are, without doubt,a better person than me for suggesting a model.
This is the result for me with Ancient scaled pop averages . I couldn't find an unscaled version. 1% or over shown.
