    Stunning news

On AncestryDNA I have two people who match me as first cousin/second cousin who I just found out and helped them discover that one is the biological son of my father's half brother, and the other is the biological son of my paternal grandmother's brother. The first knew the name of his biological father who wasn't in his life at all, and the second one thought his parents were his parents. I joined facebook and both have friended me.
I also reconnected with some relatives on my father's side. I'm estranged from my father, who abandoned me and my mom, but I reached out to his relatives and one has forwarded my information (address, phone, & email address) to him (he's not on facebook). I hope he contacts me. I never thought I'd be on facebook.

I recommend AncestryDNA to anyone/everyone. I haven't found any close matches with 23andMe or Family Tree DNA.

I like uncovering secrets, solving mysteries.

Ancestry's relative matching and records depository were indispensable when I tracked down my biological family. As I mentioned in a previous thread, without Ancestry I'd still be staring at a couple of distant matches on 23andme and FTDNA and wondering about my connection to them.

I enjoyed the thrill of the chase despite the unpleasant backstory regarding my biological parents.

My only regret is not saving all the records offline before ending my subscription.
The more I learn about this DNA stuff the less I know.

Like many here I really appreciate my AncestryDNA autosomal test. With it I was able to confirm the identity of my biological father by being a perfect Y-haplogroup match for a paternal uncle, and by sharing 1809 cM with him.

Mike_G, I love your signature, man!

I have also found a few unknown relatives through Ancestry. My dad has a 2nd cousin who was adopted and I helped get her in touch with her mother. There's another recent match who looks to be a first cousin once removed of my dad's based on matches, age and strength of the match but the father remains unknown and can only speculate. That will be an awkward one since most of the potential fathers still live in the hometown and we're still in touch. The mother is still alive but is refusing to reveal anything. There was more distance with the second cousin since the family lived on the other side of the country and were only ever seen at the odd funeral. I know that my mum's first cousin gave up a child for adoption so I'm half expecting to see them as a match some day. It would be easier than the current situation though since it was known in the family and wasn't a cover up. On MyHeritage I have 3 relatives that are 3rd cousins or closer. On FTDNA I match no one that close. I have 11 matches on Ancestry with that closeness and known connection.

Like Elizabeth I had stunning news also..(Last week) the short version is that my paternal Grandmother had at least 2 more children than my Dad..Apparently he had 2 1/2 sisters, my 1-2nd cousin ( actually 1/2 first cousin) told me that her grandmother's name was Elizabeth but her mother and Aunt were raised by a paternal uncle..
there was a backstory here for me also..I had been seeing that I had large cousin matches on 2 separate Paternal lines.. it pointed to Grandmom or her brother.. no one else possible but they ( Cousins) did not answer me.. My mother had said once that Grandmom was not a good mother at all. So I was sort of expecting one was adopted out..NO! These were 4 and 5 years old..EEKK!
I knew and loved Grandmom so I tried to figure it out.. the husband/and or father of her 2 daughter had some very bad stuff I turned up quickly online so pretty sure something bad happened here..
Dad was raised by HIS grandmother for the most part.. he was a couple years older than these girls.. Did he know? I always wondered why I never found her in the 1930 census.. A different name.. That relationship ended very soon after the census.. she married and also had a good life..
I have not yet found his Bio father but thankfully it was not the father of these girls..Dad had a much better life..

I have found close matches on 23andme but not this line..

Lizzy, I deleted my Ancestry DNA results, even though they did introduce me to my paternal grandfather's maternal cousins, who I also met on MyHeritage. It was nice to finally meet his mother's side of the family. My great-grandmother passed away shortly after I was baptised and my parents rented the house my grandfather inherited from her. I got her bed frame and dresser, but never met anyone else in person, only to find out that one of my cousins lived down the road in America and the other cousin I discovered back in Britain.

I'm happy you finally made it to Anthrogenica. I hope you like it here.

I think you should have kept your AncestryDNA results. I'm glad you met some of your relatives.

I haven't heard from my father yet.

I downloaded the images and added my cousins to the family tree, but Ancestry DNA is a bit of a joke.

I like AncestryDNA. As more people test the more found relatives you may have. One of my father's sisters tested with AncestryDNA and is waiting for her results. I also like their hints which are usually correct. I don't have a subscription.

edit: So far one of my father's brothers hasn't contacted his biological son.
Also, My father's brother (half-brother) is half Hungarian but his biological son didn't get any East European results, and instead got 18% Italian and 2% Spanish. My cousin believes the family was originally Italian and then moved to Hungary. I wonder if my aunt (my father's half sister) also gets Italian.
