According to Chinese Wiki and the 1956 ROC Census, almost 60% were from the coastal provinces of Fujian, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Guangdong, and Shandong.

It looks like 30% were from East China (around Shanghai), 27% were from the south coast, ~20% were from the Yangtze Basin, and ~20% were from the North. So they were mostly from geographic southern China, but might not have been that southern in terms of autosomal DNA.

Do you have any ideas on who this sub-group maybe? The one not falling on the North-South Chinese cline.

No idea. I think a couple of my GEDmatch samples in my "Taiwanese" group are aborigine-mixed. They score the same as Cantonese Han in MDLP K23b, but slightly differently in HarappaWorld (which defines East Eurasian ancestry components differently).

I also have the GEDmatch results of one Taiwanese national who appears to be of 1/4 aborigine descent. Their MDLP K23b results are how you'd expect a hypothetical 100% East Eurasian lowland Filipino to score. I also have MDLP K23b data for 3-4 Chinese-Japanese mixes, but can't tell if any of their Chinese ancestry is specifically Taiwanese.

Even many fiipinos can have around 10% japonic-like admix in them according to many academic admix runs, but i don't necessarily believe it is of the recent or literal type, etc
