On the V4 chip, I had 165 variants if I remember correctly, then on V5 that dropped to 155 variants.

Now with the update, I have 274 variants! More than 89% of 23andme customers. More than my brother and other South Asian 23andme relatives I connected with as well.

It seems messed up, no? I can't remember what my percentage more than 23andMe customers was before (I want to see more than 70-80+%, but now: You have more Neanderthal DNA than 32% of other customers.)

Out of the 7,462 variants we tested, we found 228 variants in your DNA that trace back to the Neanderthals.

Mine changed dramatically too. Before I had 298 and more Neanderthal than 83% of customers. Now I have 220, more than 21% of others. My matches mostly seem to have had their Neanderthal decline dramatically too. Weird.

    My traits are:

You have 1 variant associated with
having a worse sense of direction. -- This is true.

You have 1 variant associated with
being less likely to have a fear of heights. -- I guess, I don't have a fear of heights.

You have 1 variant associated with
being a better sprinter than distance runner. -- I've always been a better distance runner, but it could well be preference and training.

You have 1 variant associated with
being more likely to sweat during a workout. -- I don't think so, but a hard thing to compare.

You have 1 variant associated with
being less likely to blush easily. -- I don't think this is true either.

You have 1 variant associated with
being less likely to sneeze with a full stomach. No clue, weird trait.

Very interesting how the new results are so different. I don't think I'll be retesting, so won't know how mine has changed, although I'm curious. Mind you, after David Reich's comments on the 23andme test I'm not as inclined as I might have been otherwise: "This ranking [...] does not provide strong evidence that customers have inherited more Neanderthal DNA than their population average."

EDIT: Reich's basic quibble is that "the true variation in Neanderthal proportion within most populations is only a few tenths of a percent", hence we wouldn't see this wide range if the test was accurate. Shame, but it's a lot of fun anyway.

    A bit more than average.

None of these traits on 23andme are correct though.
