Post SNP for skin color rs16891982 (SLC45A2) and rs26722 in South Asia

This SNP is one of three from the SLC24A5 gene that can be analyzed to categorize the ancestry of a person as either European, African, or Asian, based on a 2009 study.

    (A;A) 2.7 probably light-skinned, European ancestry
(A;G) 2.5 mixed European + (African or Asian) ancestry possible
(G;G) 2.6 probably darker-skinned, Asian or African ancestry

    Suresh is AG

another important one is rs16891982 (SLC45A2) and rs26722.

    rs16891982
(C;C) 1.1 generally non-European, but if European, 7x more likely to have black hair
(C;G) 2 if European, 7x more likely to have black hair
(G;G) 1.1 Generally European; Light skin; Possibly an increased risk of melanoma

    rs26722
    (C;C) 0 normal
(C;T) 2.1 perhaps darker eye, hair, skin
(T;T) darker eye, hair, skin color

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The SNP rs1426654 AA was found in the Swedish Mesolithic remains. It is a SNP for pale skin gene found in Europeans.

"The Motala12 forager, like the Stuttgart farmer, carries at least one copy of the derived rs1426654 pigmentation-lightening

allele, and may thus have had lighter skin pigmentation than the Loschbour forager.*We typed the three ancient modern humans at

7 SNPs forming three short haplotypes associated with eye color in present-day worldwide populations (Table S8.3)26.*The

observed reads in the Motala12 forager, like the Loschbour forager match the blue-eye-associated allele at all 7 SNPs. However,

this includes two SNPs (rs7495174 and rs1291382) at only 1 coverage. Motala12 carries the blue-eye haplotype at the two BEH3

SNPs, which are in LD with the causal SNP, rs1291382, in present-day Europeans (but not outside of Europe)26.*However, the

Stuttgart farmer is also homozygous for the two blue-associated BEH3 SNPs, despite being homozygous for the ancestral allele at

rs1291382.*Stronger support for the inference of non-brown eyes for Motala12 is the observation of the derived allele at

    rs1129038, a site at almost complete LD with rs1291382 in present-day populations26."

AA along with AG value is common on SLC24A5 gene in Andhra among Kammas

    rs26722 is C/C

I don't have the same ones as you.

    rs1426654(A;A)
probably light-skinned, European ancestry This SNP influences skin pigmentation and indicates indicates light-skinned European ancestry. estimates that the rs1426654(A) allele (light skin pigmentation) spread through the European population around 6,000 - 12,000 years ago. Prior to that, "European ancestors" were most likely relatively brown-skinned.

    It means same SNP rs1426654 = SLC24A5

rs16891982 is interesting as I had brown hair as a child and have recently noticed some blonde/ginger hairs in my beard.
