Is it true that Prehistoric people were more Prognathanos than modern humans?

I know that Archaic humans were extremely prognathous , but did Prehistoric Humans from Eurasia for example (Mesolithic/Paleolithic) ,
had higher prognathism than modern humans , and if so why ?

There are different types of prognathism (maxillary, mandibular). To my knowledge, Paleolithic and Mesolithic modern humans (H. sapiens), unlike the Neanderthals and other extinct hominids, weren't significantly more prognathous than modern-day populations.
