Maybe it's the excitement of the moment and I'm not seeing things but are they really not considering the possibility of resurgence of IA-like ancestry after the Imperial era? The tables in the supplementary data seem to only use other northern sources to model subsequent central Italians.

J-L818 (best known as direct ancestor of J-L816, the second-largest Ashkenazi J1 subclade, with a basal presence in Hispanics and an Apulian-origin Romaniote Jewish family) found in a Late Antique sample.

    https://www.yfull.com/tree/J-L818/

    From my own investigation:
    "J-L818* (TMRCA: 1900 BCE)
According to Haplotree, includes possible basal Turks (Kurds?), Italian, Syrian, Saudi, German (Jew?)."
The clock indicates the moment—but what does eternity indicate?

In addition, a Bronze Age individual from Croatia (1631-1521 calBCE) belonged to the J2b2a haplogroup (14) and carried exactly the M314 derived allele that is also found in R474. Therefore, the observed J-M12 (J2b) could be a surviving lineage from local Neolithic populations or due to recent migrations from the Balkans or the Near East. "

Raw sequencing data will be available from ENA accession no. PRJEB32566. I don't get a result when I search on PRJEB32566 at https://www.ebi.ac.uk/ena

From what I can tell none of the E samples are Y31991+. There seems to be only V13, V12 and V257 (L19).

So Langobards like CL63 represent a new incursion of I1 into the population of samples. Neat.

Autosomally CL63 is close to modern Swiss German, Belgian and East French, and (unsurprisingly) the Szolad Langobard samples.
