S/SC ASIAN Results :: NGS tests and YFull (WGS 30X, Big Y, Y Elite, etc)

Figure we should have a thread just for discussion on these tests and results.

We've got several marked on the following sheet:

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...sYgdT5Mnv8kDc/

Anyone who's had such a test done, it's highly recommended you also submit your results to www.yfull.com

Finally got my R-Y16494 mom and uncle's line onto YFull: YF68408

    https://www.yfull.com/tree/R-Y29/

On FTDNA's Blocktree, there's a newer subclade, B132, which has a bunch of SNPs and so far is only for the Kazakh Babasan tribe.

It is amazing that despite all the testing in the past seven years or so there are still only two known lines under ~2500 BC Y9.
Y2351 (my upstream SNP) and Y7 (the vast bulk of samples)

Why Yfull didn't add flag/country in front of my id YF68229?

    https://www.yfull.com/tree/H-Y33670/

Also ID's under H-Y33652 formed 1500 ybp belong to Birhor caste from India/Jhakarkhand. Will post their Harappa results later on.

This post inspired me to check my yfull. Got a new subclade the TMRCA is 1200 ybp and there is someone in the group with me! Very curious to find who he/she is.

In terms of Y-DNA SNP discovery, Dante Labs appears to be roughly equal to FTDNA Big Y and FGC Y Elite, however Dante Labs is generally cheaper on offer (especially during Black Friday) and you also get autosomal (can be used for G25, as well as calculators) and mtDNA sequencing data, which can also be uploaded to YFull alongside the Y-DNA data. So Dante Labs is cheaper at certain times of the year, and provides much more data.

Also, when a new reference genome is released, you can just map the FASTQ files from Dante Labs to the new genome release, whereas the other two tests will require another test (regions that aren't relevant to the hg38 combBED region, but could be relevant in new genome versions are discarded during library preparation), which may or may not be offered at a discounted price to existing customers.

Dante Labs have improved a lot since they started performing sequencing and customer support in-house, but they are currently having issues with sequences being under-sampled and some USA customers are experiencing delays due to the kit providers who receive the kit samples from customers and sent them over to Dante Labs - this should only be a significant issue for people who've ordered the 2 week sequencing service, which I don't recommend unless you urgently require data for medical reasons. If your FASTQ files don't meet the 90GBase standard Dante Labs have set, then you can request re-sequencing to add the missing data. These are all points to bear in mind, but they're still doing much better than they were 6+ months ago.

With FTDNA and FGC, you do at least get the benefit of a more established reputation, and probably less potential headache to deal with. While these two companies have dealt with delays in the past, they've pretty much all been minor delays. With FTDNA, you also get the benefit of being a part of their exclusive database, which may be useful to you, but you can still compare YFull STR's from Dante Labs or FGC to anyone who's in a public project on FTDNA. To find FTDNA members not part of a public project, you can always order a cheap Y-STR test (Y12 and Y25 can be ordered through projects) for the sake of finding private matches. If you're not willing to wait for an offer period, FGC's test with the FGCAG18 discount code is the cheapest test outside of offer periods for Dante Labs and FTDNA, and like FTDNA, your experience with them will likely be headache-free.

I would easily recommend Dante Labs on offer (bearing in mind the issues I've mentioned above) as you get much more data than the other two tests for much less money. If you're mainly interested in Y-DNA, then the other two tests also have some unique advantages worth considering, although with YFull analysis, Dante Labs is still roughly equal in terms of Y-DNA utility, and you get mtDNA too.
