You can't really talk realistically about Indo-Europeans until about 4500 BC. Their ancestors were their ancestors, whoever they were, but they weren't Indo-Europeans until somebody began to speak Indo-European.

It's kind of like calling Mal'ta Boy an Indo-European and saying the area around Lake Baikal was the original ancestral home of the Indo-Europeans.

The quality of these threads is starting to drop as the drought for papers goes on and on. In a few weeks you won't be able to tell the difference between Anthrogenica and Apricity. By the end of the year the only thread alive will be "Could western jews descend from Aegeans? ".

That film was not shot in Karelia or Baltics. It looks like Eurasian Steppe. The scenery and the setting are completely wrong for the title.

Here are two photos from Karelia: the first is from the surroundings of Alexander-Svirsky Monastery close to Lodeynoye Pole 6 km from Svir River. The second is from the Kizhi Island on the Lake Onega a few kilometres from the Mesolithic burial ground of Yuzhnyy Oleni Ostrov.

    Thanks for the photos.
North Russia is very beatufill indeed (and no doubt is not an IE homeland).

P.S. Alexander-Svirsky Monastery is outside of Russian region Karelia. I agree that doesn't change much, but anyway.

Good point however Respublika Karelija is pretty different from that what we here in Finland consider as old Karelia.

Never heart about "Old Karelia", also couldn't find it on wiki. What's that?
Monastery we are talking about is well outside Finnish borders in 1918-1939.

Why not? BUT Maltaboy was onot originaly from there. He was from the
west, so, the Heimat was probably somewhere between Volga and Yenisey.
I guess it was probably between Volga and Ural.

According to the description of the film it was somewhere on the Ural.
According to the logic of the plot - closer to Caucasus

This is more or less how Karelia is understood in Finland:

    Karelia.GIF

The River Svir marks the starting point of Aunuksen Karjala (Karelia of Olonets). Venšjš is Russia.

Alexander-Svirsky Monastery is on the northern side of the River Svir, so for me it is in Karelia of Olonets.
