Sorcelow made the calculator and named each of the categories. I have never gotten hung-up on what he called each component. It seems pretty clear it is a proxy for Mycenaean. I will find you the thread.

Sorcelow is pulling names for his categories out of his hat and those names are nonsensical and misleading. How is Greek_Thrace, that plots right into the Bulgarian/Gagauz cluster, predominately 'Central-Med'? What is Central Med, it sounds like a name for a shopping mall in Italy to me or something.

People like to break down the Mediterranean into 2 or 3 components When it's solely limited to Europe, there are usually 2: West Med for Spaniards and East Med for Italians, Balkans and isles. When one also includes the Lebanese and Jews, then they take the role of East Med, while Italians, Balkans and isles are usually thrown into a Central kind of component, because geographically they fall between the two.

Thrace still gets a very poor fit. I think it has more to do with the sample than any of our models.

Ι really don't think this is the reason but I'd rather not get too much into it, there's already a similar themed argument in the thread about the Roman samples. People should not take it upon themselves to re-label historical samples (like those in the mytrueancestry website do) because it is confusing for new users who are trying to make sense of all these components and then have this kind of dis-information thrown upon them as well.

You are really focused on that name. If it was called "East Med" would you object as much? It's just a name to me, any of us can change it in Vahaduo (like I do for Smyrna) if we want.

Take some time with that Thrace sample. See what you can come up with. I can't model it and get any sort of decent fit.
