I was recently able to have my deceased father's brother take a DNA test for me so that I could find out my paternal haplogroup. It came back at R-A1786 and I have not been able to find anything out about it. Hoping someone on here can point me in the right direction?

FTDNA has four branches below A1786 and eleven testers (Big Y only). Generally, there are usually
around 20 % of the Y67 marker testers that are Big Y tested, so that means that only 55 testers
share your branch. The dating for A786 varies a lot as BigTree has 1430 YBP and YFULL has
2500 YBP.
I assume that you received your Big Y results ? If so, please let us know your FTDNA ID
and some project that you belong to. I assume that you tested negative for the four branches
below A1786 ?
Normally, branches in the 1500 to 2500 YBP range have a lot of branch equivalents but your
branch does not. This means that there could be convergence (overlap) of your A1786 with
other haplogroups. This would make predicting A1786 via YSTR signatures and charting of
the 50 or so testings less accurate (unless thoroughly YSNP tested).
