I also stated that I don't know how this all works, but I went from 1.7 of almost all German to 1.9 of something a little more representative and still lower than what many others got. isn't that at least on the right track? if not I guess I'll have to settle for being 96.6% German. LOL
You might not be 96% German but you are likely 96% NW European and within that 96% are populations that overlap so adding and subtracting things creates a sort of butterfly effect and it can be very hard to keep under control. This is just a suggestion, I’m not trying to sound off. It’s very challenging to get a clean split. I’m not East German or North Italian but it’s very hard to accurately define this. I think only one has succeeded in doing this thus far.

I edited my previous to attach a thread where I thought others were doing this too and it added legitimacy to the model? I'm not taking offense, just trying to play with these models like others are....

It is. But that also solidified the point I’m trying to make. Those samples are chosen because they are of the same time period and belong in that calc. Adding GRC-Pel to a modern calc may or may not be the right move. I don’t know off the top of my head if that sample is modern or ancient. You are certainly welcome to experiment but it can get tricky when you start seeing results with low fits but may or may not make any sense. I mean, I can get a 75% English 25% Sephardic split with a fit of 2.0. Decent fit, not accurate. Sorry, I’m starting to feel like I’m sounding preachy haha. Hope it doesn’t come across as that.
