I went back to it last night after visiting this place awhile. It inspired me to add some of my living dna matches to the tree, extending it in places where I only had their grandparents or great grandparents heretofore.

Of course, some of my matches at Ancestry only use initials or cute (to them) usernames. While I am able to see what their surnames are (or should be), sometimes I can't puzzle out their first names. And most of them don't answer messages.

Added some more this morning until my eyes started bugging out from staring at the computer screen.

    It’s fun.

Too bad no one else in my family cares.

I now have at least 40 people to whose entries in my pedigree I have added that new dna match icon.

Most of them were not already in my tree. I had to look at their trees, puzzle out the connections, and add them.

It was easier to do that for some than for others.

Many of my dna matches have made it impossible.

    Anyone else pursuing this?

A buddy of mine on Facebook who is into genetic genealogy and who is pretty knowledgeable said he has done 30-40 people in his pedigree, which is where I am (41 or so at this point).

I don't believe he thinks much of Anthrogenica, and lately I am beginning to understand that perspective.

Sorry to be the only one posting in this thread, but I am really enjoying this feature. I have added even more people since my last post above.

It really helps to solidify paper trail connections with biological support and provides a convenient way of showing that in the pedigree itself.

I wish FTDNA's pedigree worked as well.

    I like it.

I apologize if someone here has already mentioned this, but I just noticed it this morning.

Now, if Ancestry would only just provide y-dna and mtDNA results. Then we'd be cookin'.
i have an account and a dna test , but i do not get that icon

Apparently not everyone has it yet.

I have had the icon for months - on and off.
And it was not something I had to add myself.
But it seemed very hit and miss.
    And then it went away.

And I have been working on something different for a while - massively expanding one branch on my tree from the top down.
I have a surname relatively common in that English county and hope that if I identify known descendant lines that more connections will appear.
We will see. I still have another couple of hundred names to add.
After that I might see how it is working.

The issue for me is I have created multiple Ancestry trees, for the various branches of my family. My own personal tree doesn't list my (and my ancestors) siblings, but is the tree used for my DNA results.

I also have had a couple of my cousins allow me to access their own DNA results. I can go into one of my trees and Ancestry allows me to choose ONE individual's DNA results to link and it will place the icon on our shared ancestors, but I can only do one at a time.

I have a small specialty tree designed to try to collect info on my mtDNA line straight back. It hasn't been very effective.

Otherwise I have one big tree for the whole genealogical enchilada. It has turned into a monster, even more so now that I am connecting my dna matches to it, most of whom are still alive, and applying this new icon.

In the past I was content with what ThruLines would show me and did not feel the need to puzzle out the details and add all these people to my tree. I'm doing that now, though, because applying the icon to dna match entries in my pedigree is my current mania.

Of course, there are many of my dna matches to whom I can't apply the icon, even those where the shared most recent common ancestors are known. As I mentioned before, I either can't figure what their real names are, or they've got their trees so private (if not totally private) that I can't wire them to mine with sufficient detail to justify the use of the icon.
