    Question GAP Member Subgrouping

Anyone else currently experiencing an inability to get into the Member Subgrouping pages of one or more of your projects?

I am. I get a little error message at the bottom of the page and a red arrow that circles round and round, probably for eternity, but I have not yet waited quite that long to see.

This only happens with one of my projects, and I run several.

This is a new project for me. It's a y-dna project but for my mother's surname. I never intended to become its admin, but some months back I tried to contact the then-current admin and never got a response. I had exchanged some very cordial emails with him back in 2012 but had not had occasion to communicate with him again until recently. When he didn't answer after I had made a couple of attempts, I contacted FTDNA to see if they could get in touch with him.

Well, to make a long story short, it turns out the man passed away (God rest his soul) . . . on October 21st . . . of 2018!

    Whoa!

Apparently no one in that project noticed.

Anyway, I am hoping to liven things up some and get the members to do some further testing. Only two of the 81 members have done the Big Y, only a handful have 111 markers, and few have done FTDNA's Family Finder test. Far too many have just 12 or 25 markers (signs of the cobwebbed old days).

I have a suspicion that a number of the members have gone the way of the former admin and may be enjoying a beer with him in heaven as we speak.

An error has occurred is the FTDNA message.
Spinning red arrow...makes ya kinda dizzy.
    Good luck with that rms2!

Here's the blurb that appears in the "Project Administrator News" on the left side of my GAP home page:

    5/19/2020
We have had reports that there is an error in member subgrouping that is affecting some administrators' and co-administrators' ability to load the member subgrouping page. There is a ticket in for this issue and IT is working on it at a high priority. As soon as we have any additional information we'll post it, but please don't hesitate to email groups@ftdna.com if you are experiencing this error. Please include the group project affected and your GAP username. Thank you!

I had this problem at the beginning of May. Then after a few days it worked and still does. Odd.

Maybe they'll get it fixed today, but as of just a minute ago it was still doing the Hokey-Pokey.

I've done a lot analyses and other work on this project that I just took over, but I can't make any needed changes until I can get into member subgrouping.

I have had a similar problem ever since FTDNA switched to the new subgrouping process a couple of months ago. However it only occurs in one of the subgrouping categories. When I try to open that particular subgrouping category, a message pops up momentarily saying "an error has occurred" and after that I get nothing but an eternally spinning red circle. Oddly enough the other subgrouping categories in the same project work just fine. I waited a couple of weeks to see if the problem would be corrected, and when it wasn't I reported it to FTDNA. They replied they were opening a case, but the problem persists over a month later.

Yep. I really love all that FTDNA has done for me over the years, but I've got to say that its web site is less than stellar. I never have the problems at Ancestry and 23andMe that I have at FTDNA.

It's a pain in the ass.

Member subgrouping was working for a few minutes just a little while ago, but it's fritzing out again now.

In six more days it will be at least a month since I reported this problem to FTDNA. I like FTDNA, but good grief.

It's just about pointless for me to attempt to administer the project in which this problem still persists.
