    Timor Leste DNA results! 🇹🇱

I met an East Timorese or also known as Timor Leste girl on YouTube, she has two Timorese parents from Timor Leste and she showed me her Ancestry results which was very fascinating.

Fascinating stuff. I wasn't aware Timorese people had so much non-native ancestry. That person is only 45% native Timorese (I suppose Native Timorese are a Melanesian - Southeast Asian mix).

Fascinating. Is she actually located in East Timor or in the diaspora? Clearly she's not representative of the Timorese majority, but rather the urban, mixed-race (mestišo) minority. Even so, I'm surprised she has such a high SSA percentage. Maybe one of her grandparents was mixed-race from a Portuguese African colony.

Yes,you are right on the money. Her great grandpa was a Mozambique soldier brought over to East Timor by the Portuguese during the Colonial days,so her father is about one fourth African and the rest Indgineous Timorese (Melanesian/Austronesian).Her mother is the one heavily admixed with Portuguese, but both of her parents despite being "mixed" are self identifying "Native Timorese" as in two Timorese parents. So in her case, she is a Multi generational admixed Timorese rather than a modern mutt like myself.By the way,she said African admixture isnt that rare there and that a number of African soldiers settled in Timor from Portuguese rule. This actually wasnt the first time I had heard of this, because I read about the "Belanda Hitam" or Black African Dutch Colonial soldiers who also settled in Ambon,Maluku and of course the aforementioned Portuguese African soldiers who settled in Timor from Colonialism.

And yes,she lives in Australia where there is a sizable Timorese conmunity, mostly Timor Leste or East Timor.

Also, based on both DNA tests and 23andme itself,Timorese and Eastern Indonesia as well are both Austronesian and Melanesian mixes, rather than "Southeast Asia" our Mongoloid ancestry is straight from Taiwan, particularly the Indigineous Aboriginals. The article I read said that Eastern Indonesia/Timor Leste has relatively few genetic links to Mainland Southeast Asia but rather Indigenous Taiwan.

Another thing interesting about this Timorese girls Ancestry results is that she actually has more Melanesian ancestry than Austronesian ancestry! And by a decent margin at that..
