Some times I am surprised why so far South Asians muslims dont really show much dna from Central Asia? With the Amount of Invasions from central asia over the last 1300 years, one of would think it would have huge impact on the dna

Populations are too massive to have any major impact on autosomal DNA. Simiarly, how the Saka/Kushan/Huns etc didn't have much of an impact either or the British later on.

British won't be the best comparison. And yes, population plays a huge role as well as over the centuries the admixture can dilute to non traceable amounts. Imo Haplogroups, especially paternal ones are more solid proof than admixture.

Agreed. I'm waiting on my grandad's y-dna from y-seq atm. Trying to ascertain whether his gr. gr. grandfather was local or foreign.

So far he's J2a2 but negative for L581, so I guess will have to wait and see!

My father's family are Hyderabadi who set up in Oman roughly 100 years ago and my mother is Colombian-American.

According to my father's paternal family ancestry is supposedly from Abdul Qadr Al-Jilani though our y-dna is RL295, so I don't see direct lineage. Most likely they were converted by someone of the Qadriyya order.

As for his maternal line, they claim that they immigrated from UP as a result Aurangzeb's conquest of the Deccan. They were largely estate owners and their family was entrusted with the care of a masjid built by the son-in-law of Malik Ambar.

Both families have been there for at least 500 years, which is interesting to note as you can see from my results that there is very little local South Indian admixture.

Pretty much all other test indicate some West Asian admixture coming through as Persian or Turkish on different occasions.

One of the most interesting points though is that the North-Indian/Pakistani regions most similar to my family is Gujurat and Kashmir, which I have no knowledge of being connected to.

So recently I was using one of those Muslim online dating apps and matched with someone who was Hyderabadi. In our texting, I mentioned she didn't look Hyderabadi and she later spilled the beans she had Turkish ancestry from Eastern Anatolia about 4 or so gens back that ended up in Hyderabad. Her family even knew the village name, but she was very secretive about her family in general. By her looks you could have sworn she was half, she had looks that were unique to that region while other family members looked more desi. So I was surprised that even Anatolian Turkish ancestry is possibly out there in Hyderabad and Delhi like you guys said.

The first photo is the oldest photo I have of any of my ancestors. My greatx4 grandfather's grandfather, i.e. my greatx6 grandfather, was the ataleeq (tutor) to a son of Shah Alam II.
