I've always been somewhat suspicious of the K23b, mostly because I don't know (a) what is Ancestral Altaic and (b) why I should have an appreciable amount of it. But, here is mine, my closest matches on the oracle are English and Belgian, along with Frisian and Dutch.Screen Shot 2020-06-27 at 6.14.41 PM.png

    Hi OP,

Regarding your maps for Achmadzaky, how did you determine the Chinese_Han regions on your map? The HGDP_Han_ reference population is representative of the South China Sea area, while HGDP_Han_North is a proxy for more Tibeto-Burman shifted Northern Chinese. I noticed your Chinese_Han_North region only includes Manchuria but not the North Chinese heartland (which is labeled Chinese_Han_).

You certainly know better than me. I will correct this.
Usually I must fill the areas without references with some other which are closest to them or most similar to them.

I don't think Han_North and Han_Mandarin correspond well to any particular areas. I think they represent the end points on the spectrum of variation among Chinese people outside the south-southeast coast.

On paper, Han_North should represent the wheat-growing provinces, while Han-Mandarin should represent Mandarin-speaking areas across the northern part of the country and the southwest.

Han_North is more "NE Asian-shifted" but also scores higher on S_East_Asian, while Han-Mandarin is less "NE Asian-shifted" but also more West Eurasian mixed.

But Sichuan and Chongqing (in between Tibetan and Tujia) should definitely be Han_Mandarin, not Han_North.

Could you do me when you have time? I always thought it was cool how I have random Austroasiatic-speaking groups from Thailand in my top 20 Oracle single-population matches.

The bottom two "Han-Mandarin" text boxes should be "Hakka". FYI the "Chinese_Han" on the SE coast next to Taiwan is roughly where the ancestors of most Taiwanese people originated. If we're going for optimal accuracy, I'd also change the two "Han-Mandarin" text boxes between "Miao" and "She" to "Chinese_Han", since those aren't technically Mandarin-speaking areas. "Tujia" and "Miao/Hmong" also look like they should be switched.

This is roughly what I think the Han_Chinese reference populations are supposed to correspond to:

But overall, this version is more accurate than your first map, which implied that there are significant genetic differences between Manchuria and North China proper. When all hard data shows otherwise.
