How to actually know what my father is, genetically?

I've already talked about this but my father is a Southerner and is of English, Irish, Welsh, Scottish, and Norman ancestry. How do I figure out what he is exactly, for example how English or Irish he is? I know there's all the commercial testing but most of those don't go back 500 years, so I'm looking for an accurate resource that can tell me what he is exactly going beyond 500 years back.

    Any resources out there?

It's impossible with these tools, all those populations are already extremely similar to begin with, it's like splitting hairs.

GEDmatch is autosomal. Do you mean using commercial testing services? In any case, I think you have your answer. There really aren't reliable tools that can give you the type of precision you're looking for. If you haven't already, you might look into getting G25 coordinates when they're made available again in July, and you can play around with those. Even then, I'd lower my expectations in terms of the information you expect to extract from them in the the short term.

There is norman ancestry both in your English and French Canadian ancestry and then there is English in your Irish ancestry. How do you expect the machine to tell them apart? At best you are going to have a huge blob near the British Isles and a bit of slavic, that's it.
