my limited knowledge about such things I often say a calculator is "shifted" one way or another. this one to me, seems "shifted" east. My English and Scottish are low, my German is really high, my Italian looks to be more Turkish than Greek, something EthnoGenes showed slightly; (but added together this one too is about what my paper and family story trail equals). I have new Eastern European, and Scandinavian is very high. In the start of this thread somebody mentioned how German was lumped in with Slavic and Baltic, and this seems to be bearing itself out here. Ancestry*com only have me 1% eastern European, 23/me doesn't give me any, AND they hit my German right on the head with Lower Saxony as the only German listed. I think that German has the tendency to take large sections of everything around it on most calculators. I understand the Scandinavian because my Scottish is suppose to be part highlands, and of course England was a favorite stop for the Vikings. Germany shares a border with Denmark so..... BTW this particular model is the only one to NOT give me any north African, not even a trace. I usually get traces of something from the Berber coast or at least some odd east African- not this time. I'm inclined to agree that this one gets general regions ok but that's about it. if you have 15 Euros to play with, why not.

Here's some more thoughts on this service:

Not the most accurate but not the worst. The "ancestors in current countries" is more accurate than the "ancestors along continents" IMO. The latter gave me ZERO British/Irish, the bulk of my NW Euro ancestry being listed as French/German. This is a shift I've noticed on several services and it could be because I have a shift east/southwards due to my Romani/Jewish/other more distant ancestries. I also scored 14% Eastern Euro, assigned to Russia (10%), Moldova (5%), and Serbia (2.5%) on the "ancestors in current countries". This could also be due to my eastward shift.

My "ancestors in current locations" actually gives me 30% Irish, so that's at least something. I also score 1.4% North Asian and 1.1% Anatolian, which the current countries estimate reads as 2.5% Turkish.

As for my "Y chromosome", it's given as A, which is very rare among people of non-SSA descent. Going by the origin of my family it's more likely to be R1b.

It reminds me a bit of the calcs on Geneplaza, except there's no nMonte-like feature there like here.

    For sheer amusement:

    - users be weary of those Denisovian estimates, I highly doubt a person of my decent would have archaic Asian affinities akin to Melanesians and Aboriginal Australians

    - the SSA breakdown seems awfully incoherent when compared to other more reliable ancestral results (G25, FTDNA.. )

    - @Hurricane, funny how their references picked up shared Somali/Ethiopian without any Sudanese for your results

Regarding the prehistoric man of Neanderthals or Denisovans, Could any of it be from reverse migration?
