    Hi,
I think he means that the widespread use of the term "Occitan" is recent. Back then people didn't use it. Instead they called each other by the name of their cultural/political provinces (such as Gascons, Provençaux, Auvergnats etc... Or even smaller geographical areas: such as Cévenols...).
In Limousin I am not sure how they used to be called. I guess it depends on the era. But yeah they definitely spoke languagues/dialects which can be classified as Occitan.

Interesting to notice that natives from Toulouse almost get 100% Iberian on 23andme (in the last update), while in Limousin they get about half of it.

Hi, yes maybe he is trying to say that.
Wow interesting, and they are only from Toulouse and his era??

I live in what used be called Languedoc for centuries. I myself have a mixed French background (from many different regions). But I know so many natives from the area of Nîmes, Montpellier, Béziers... I wonder what they would get on 23andme.
Julien Rochedy, native from Ardèche, showed his 23andme results one or two years ago. And although his area is more in southeastern France, he got a way higher Iberian component (than Italian one). I wonder how the updates modified his percentages.
There is definitely a substantial local Iberian-like component all around southern France (and even in central France).
From the most southwestern part to Toulouse (and perhaps to Montpellier in the other direction), it's almost entirely Iberian-like. Then it is more mixed with what they count as F/G, and a little bit Italian in the most southeastern parts of the country.

Yeah apparently. The Toulouse native is the grandpa of someone here on anthrogenica. (Who published the update few months ago).

Yes on the Atlantic coast they get substantial Iberian like components until Vendée apparently (from 15% to 40% more or less). And in Charentes (I also have some ancestors there), they can get very big Iberian-like percentages. (On the Apricity I read that a native from Charentes got very similar results to Basque people few years ago... I don't know how widespread such profiles are, but they exist)

I think maybe this local iberian like is strong too in Loire Atlantique, Pays de la Loire, on the Border of this river.

Yeah Spanish and Portuguese for french people in 23andMe results with no mix from iberians Peninsula parents is mainly from the South of France.
I have a lot of spanish and Portuguese with 23andMe and a lot of basques french with G25.
In fact lol, culturally, genetically, on historic view etc, we can to say the South in France begins under the Loire
Indeed, when I speak of "Occitania", I'm referring to the cultural and historical area, recognized as a linguistic and cultural concept since the Middle Ages, but has never been a legal nor a political entity under this name.

My father's family spoke Limousin dialect, a dialect of the Occitan language.

23andMe should rework its French category, perhaps by creating new French sub-groups.

Oh yeah, i agree with that, it is more originally a cultural and not a political concept unlike Aquitania witch is not only diverse on cultural view but a political entity too, thank you, you are welcome-.
