Additionally, ancient Mongolian samples I7021, I11697, and I11696 have been added under C-YP5260, showing a distant relation with ancient Siberian sample NEO249.

Yfull is processing SF11 - sample which is considered oldest within the haplo I1? I wonder if sample quality can let them for some conclusions. For now I1 have one SNP less.

There are more https://indoeuropeen.eu/miscellanea/reply/34291/ but probably would be problem with proper dating.

Are you sure that YFull are processing SF11's Y-DNA? It looks to me that they have just added his mtDNA to the U5a1 branch at their mTree. I've had a look into SF11's BAM file and it's not great data.

I wouldn't say SF11 is considered the oldest sample within I1. He's positive for 10 of the SNPs that define I1, but he's negative for 10 of those SNPs as well. I'd say he's more pre-I1 than I1 and represents an extinct line that branched off from the main I1 in between I and the MRCA of modern I1. It's not really possible to say where he branched off as he's no call for more than 290 of the SNPs that define I1.

Other confirmed pre-I1 are BAL051 (13 positive, 20 negative), Car1 (19 positive, 35 negative), HUNG153 (45 positive, 10 negative) - the latter is the only pre-I1 so far that's after the TMRCA of modern I1. BAB5, RISE175, RISE179 and RISE210 are likely pre-I1 as well, but the data for those samples is very poor.

Oldest fully I1 that we're aware of is oll009 - he's I-DF29, dated to 1930-1750 BCE (95.4%) by radiocarbon analysis and on the YFull tree.

Interesting - I didn't see SF11 on the classic view but can see on the "live" view.

Yeah, I think they added him a few months ago already, but he doesn't show up on the 'classic' version of YFull. Same issue with a lot of aDNA samples that have been added since the beginning of the year. This guy's from Gotland, dated to 3000 BC, right?

I wish Yfull would post VK146. He's one of the Oxford Vikings, and while he's got one of the most northern haplogroups, autosomally he looks much more southern, and is a good example of mixed ancestry in Vikings and why the single-closest population distance is not always the best answer to ancestry (there was a guy on Eurogenes insisting VK146 was a French mercenary or slave)

    Sample: VK146 / UK_Oxford_#10
    Location: St_John’s_College_Oxford, Oxford, England, UK
    Age: Viking 880-1000 CE
    Y-DNA: I-M6155
    mtDNA: J1c3e1

    Here's where he'd go:

A bit earlier if it's the one I'm thinking of - Calibrated date (cal BP, 2 sigma) 9023-8760 from carbon-14 from this paper https://journals.plos.org/plosbiolog...l.pbio.2003703

Hmm... Rather odd YFull added him to the tree. I remember sifting through the bam file and the depth of coverage being very far from impressive.
