    Anatolian-Balkan component/s in the pan-European Romani genepool.

I have recently started to look into the Anatolian-Balkan component/s that are found in the Romani genepool (these components are by far the largest "component" in the pan-European romani genepool), in connection with my ongoing Romani blog project (the corona crisis all but killed any progress I was making, but I still try to keep it going bit by bit).

I came across a study by Greek linguist Tzitzilis (google keeps correcting it to Tzadziki ), that noted that the Greek language contribution to the Romani language/s (Greek is the biggest European "donor" of loanwords etc), seems to be from Pontic and Cappadocian Greek. With this in mind I wanted to check if there was a correlation between these linguistic findings and recent genetic findings. I therefore looked at the recent 2019 study, which happens to discuss this subject (the study is littered with historical and geographic "flaws", but we can excuse their ignorance, they are after all not historians). The study includes two relevant (for us) DNA clusters Balkan-1 and Balkan-2, which are represented by various peoples, see fig14 for a visual representation of the clusters based on sample-geography, as well as S1 table and S9 table for a more detailed overview of the samples included in the various clusters.

As far as I can tell, the Balkan clusters include a number of northern Greek based samples, samples that I suspect might have some Cappadocian and Pontic Greek ancestry, as these two Anatolian Greek groups mostly settled in northern Greece following the population exchange between Turkey and Greece. But I am not able to verify this theory.

In short it would be great if anyone here has access to Pontic Greek or Cappadocian Greek samples? That can be compared with the various Romani samples (both Balkan based Roma and Iberian based Cale groups etc) from the aforementioned 2019 study. To see if there is a genetic correlation to match Tzitzilis linguistic findings.

Aren't the G25 ones of any use?

    edit:

I have my mother's and my grandmother's (Trabzon).

I have found that G25, or at least the online tools that uses G25 data, to be fairly useless in this regard, as I tried something like what you proposed a while back, both with regards to the South Asian and SE European components in the Pan-european Romani gene pool, and it didn't make sense.

Do you have any Romani DNA matches by any chance? Which DNA database do you currently use?

You mean on commercial sites? I don't see any Romani matches for my mother/grandmother, not that I was able to decipher anyways, the matches seem to be Pontic Greeks, Turks, Georgians and Armenians.

Yes I meant in commercial databases.

Well, I am sorry I can't be of any help, if you think of something, let me know.
