    Me: 3559 matches
    Dad: 3471 matches
    Mum: 637 matches
    Dad's aunt: 3932

My mum got her results in December 2017 while I got mine in December 2016.
December 2016 means the current chip as well.

I think it must be due to the time that I uploaded to FTDNA. I uploaded mum's on 29th March 2018 while I uploaded my great aunt's DNA on 31st August 2019. The furthest out match that my mum has is 3rd to 5th cousin while my great aunt has 5th to remote cousins.

Nqp15hhu might contradict this if both of his and his mother's results were uploaded the same day.

That might be it then. They might have reduced the matching threshold some time after August 2018. I wouldn't be surprised if I re-uploaded my mum's DNA and she had 3 thousand matches.

Bingo, it's the same for all 4 kits of my family (MyHeritage). The earlier one was activated, the more matches it has.

But changes in matching threshold automatically affect older uploads (and older non-uploads) too.

Well all I know is that my mum has no 5th to distant cousins for her upload while my great aunt does for her upload. That seems to suggest that 5th to distant matches are being excluded from the match list for my mum.

As someone said before, I think that FTDNA used to exclude distant matches for uploads. I originally had an upload with FTDNA and I think that I had a similar number of matches as my mum before I deleted the upload and did the Family Finder on a swab sample.

Have you contacted FTDNA about that? It would be interesting what FTDNA has to say on this issue.

Weirdly, I have 9,560 matches, while my sister has 13,014, and my parents have 12,789 and 13,286. My sister is the last one I put on, and I think I was first and my parents in the middle.

Our farthest matches are all about 8 cM and 1 segment, so I don't seem to be missing the most distant matches. I actually bought the MH test for myself, so it will be interesting to see how that affects it.

I have received a reply from FTDNA:
I looked into this more, and among these 2 kits, they were transferred about a year apart (one had its data uploaded on March 22, 2018 and the other on May 22, 2019). Within that time period, we at FamilyTreeDNA changed the way we interpret transferred data from AncestryDNA (even if they're both V2) once we upgraded to the new chip.

We started a process called imputation, which allows us to now give more speculative Matches (beyond 5th cousins) we weren't able to previously do. This explains the match differences between the 2 kits.
The difference in match numbers is related to when the DNA was uploaded.
