I-2535/1953 and family finder match (please help)

Hello,

I'm from Slovenia and part of I-Z140 group.
When I got my first results back from Familytreedna (familyfinder and Y37) I noticed that I have one 12 STR match (he is I-S12289) from UK which also apear as my match in my familyfinder (we share centimorgans: 22; longest block: 8)! I did a BIGY and found out that we are both in the same group under (I-Z140-Z2535/S1953). I'm I-A16098 he is I-S12289.

How is this even possible? Misstake, coincidence?
We could not share any "recent" ancestors he is from UK and I'm from Slovenia (I have some paper trail ancestors from Germany and that is all).

Can someone please help me with this? Could we share 22 centimorgans from our ancient ancestor Z2535/S1953?

Hello fellow I-Z140! You and this match are not that closely related on the Y-DNA line. Your last common ancestor on the Y line was about 4100 years ago before going on their separate pathways. The Y12 result is a false positive that sneaks under the threshold because of the small number of markers tests - you'll notice that this match likely doesn't appear at in your lists (Y25, Y37, Y67, Y111) as there more markers to compare and more differences.

I don't think there is any mistake in the results - sometimes no calls and low reads can show inconclusive results for SNPs, but there's quite a few on both of your lists that agree with the branching on the phylogenetic tree, and there are also several phyloequivalent SNPs (for example, 5 at Z2538 and 11 at YSC261) that would all have to be read wrong to make it a mistake.

Regarding the same individual on FamilyFinder, any shared autosomal DNA is unlikely to be from the Y-line ancestor as any autosomal DNA inherited from the mutual Y-line ancestor would be filtered out due to genetic recombination over the generations. It could be any of the non-Y lines. I'd be more confident if it was a full segment of 22cM - that would give more confidence. However, FTDNA reports segments that are as small as 1cM in order to get to the total number of centimorgans. Longest block means that the largest one is 8cM and the remaining 14cM is broken up into multiple smaller segments. I'd say 8cM falls into the unreliable category when deciding whether a segment is identical by descent (IBD) or identical by state (IBS). I wonder what the source of your haplogroup is in Hungary. Given Hungary’s eventful history it could be any number of possibilities! Your Big Y results should be very interesting.

some ancient relatives as Longobard, Cartaginies some Hungarian too

Hello! I have kit 486192 an FTDNA. I have I-S4700 I-Y12047 I-Y3153 I-CTS10937 I-Z2535 I-Z141 I-Z140 I-Z60 I-Z61 I-CTS8647 I-Z58 I-DF29 SNP. I have no DNA matches just about around 300 AD if you saw the film Gladiator somewhere North Germany Denmark were ours ancestry that time because Im anglo-saxon I1 (as you are too) they lived in Europa all the time. They never went to Britain but they stayed in Europa.
