Very true. That kind of overlap you always have, but on 23andme there was an additional subtraction caused by Broadly North Western and some Broadly Southern European. It all added up. The NW percentage for most Germans is just German anyway, but a lot of people might find it confusing which just don't realise that those percentages are just one possible way of interpreting the individual genetic profile, with some runs being more, others less correct. 23andme does a very good job everything considered, but there was just potential for improvement. Let's see what the update brings for me and my matches.

My dad's ancestry is primarily from northwestern Europe.

    Father's relatives:

    Paternal Grandfather- Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
    Paternal Grandmother-Denmark (South Jutland)

    Maternal Grandmother-Uelzen, Germany (Lower Saxony)
Maternal Grandfather- French Canadian, British Isles and distant Germany ancestry (All dating back to colonial times)

He seems to score more Scandinavian than I thought. It could be due to his North German/Danish Ancestry (Christensen/Hansen/Gram/Weibol etc).

I match closely with a lot of Swedes/Norwegians on his side via MyHeritage and I'm not sure why. His paternal Grandfather and family are all Mecklenburgers but I don't have a lot of information about that family. I do bear their surname. Maternal grandmother was 100% Hannoverian from near Uelzen. (Böddenstedt/Suderberg)

There was a thread a while back about some Ancestry calculator designed for Ancestry G25 coordinates. It won't show communities but it might be worth comparing the two results.

@Matty: If you read the components the right way, your result makes a lot of sense in my opinion, since you really have Colonial British and Scandinavian ancestry through British and Danish ancestry. However, what I really do wonder is why they recognise French communities, but don't assign actual French. I read that French is a difficult category for them, because of the lack of cooperation with France and the ban on testing, but there are samples out and there are French customers or descended people, otherwise they wouldn't get the "additional communities". So I found the "additional communities" kind of odd, like how can you have that but no actual French in percent? What you about your fully French Canadian matches, which you might have, what do they score?

It’s my father’s results and I’m assuming they’re using similar DNA from those communities in Quebec. I’m guessing the “French” part is mixed in with the northwestern Europe classification

    Here’s my mother:

She’s mostly Norwegian (father) via Stavanger and Northwest German (Leer, Ostfriesland) thru her maternal Grandfather and British isles thru her maternal grandmother

I have matches which score France on a low level, so I wonder why he did not and how "additional communities" can be interpreted going from that.

My sibling also shows France and the French settler communities, but I do not
