I think the lack of DNA relatives might be a combination of No one in the Area where my father is from testing with 23andMe combined with these village Town communities in the area my father is from being a bit inbred lol.
Lucca is a nice city, mountains near by, not far from the sea etc.....better than Florence IMO

my mother sister lived there after marrying a Lucchese man ................but she liked Rimini ( adriatic side ) for any beach activity

BTW....after 1st cousin on my maternal....next best maternal side is 4th cousin ....half % DNA shared and 2 segments
The main difference is of course, for us males, the X-chromosom matches.

On the Adriatic coast I prefer Cattolica and Gabicce Mare.

Dare I say it... the music of Puccini from Lucca has given as much, or more, joy to the world than all the art galleries of Florence.

    I have 1447 on mother’s side.
But only 43 on Italian fathers side.
    Does that still seem odd?
That feature probably won't work if the relatives are related through both sides. I'm assuming only your mother has tested? If your father was tested, it is likely many of those relatives that it's saying are from the mother's side will also be related to your father.

    You have one Italian parent?

Either way you are also phased like me through your mother, yet have roughly equal amount of DNA relatives from each side.
So myself getting only 43 on fathers side can’t be a technical issue through phasing but more like lack of Italian customers from my fathers countryside community plus perhaps the community and surrounding communities May be some what inbred.

My grandfather was full Calabrian Italian. So I’m 25% on paper. And yes the inbreeding in our town was likely pretty high lol. I mean I have tons of Caruso’s Siciliano’s a few Cervonaro’s and Politi’s on multiple branches. I swear the only surname that doesn’t repeat was mine and my great grandfathers mom Morabito but they actually further back came from a different area all together

How many DNA relatives do you have listed as having at least one Italian born Grandparent?

30 are listed. The more I think about it, I’m not too surprised by your low numbers. Out of the 30 I have only 1 or 2 are actually still living in Italy. The rest are either first gen Americans or people like me who have a grandparent or two who were from Italy. I’ve heard that DNA testing is not popular in Italy so if your dad was actually from Italy, that likely means all his close relatives are, and add to that the typical isolation some of these towns have, and that likely means little to no people doing any sort of test. I’ve found more actual Italians from Italy relatives on My Heritage, but total I have maybe 7
