Dakhni/Deccani results thread

Muslim from Hyderabad, notably my first 23andMe match that didn't ghost me when I first tested long ago and my first confirmed actual genetic link to Hyderabad to begin with.

He doesn't really seem to have any meaningful foreign admixture, but he does seem to be a transplanted Awadhi. His paternal haplogroup is L-M27 and his maternal is H14, which is interesting.

My dad is Hyderabadi-Omani (no arab admixture) and my mother is Colombian.

My family history that I know is that my grandparents are all from Old City Hyderabad, There native tongues were Deccani Urdu and Telugu. Both sides of my family have Middle Eastern origin myths . My father's side we are supposedly Syed and go by the title Qazi or Qadi, and we were granted the title from a Firman from Shah Jehan himself after settling from Iran according to family lore( very very unlikely based on my Y-DNA). While on mother side we are supposedly of Iraqi Arab ancestry as well 7 generations back but after these results I don't trust these family myths. Most of the surnames on my family tree are also of Islamic Honorific lineages like Siddiqui, Ansari, Farooqui, and so on. On 23andme DNA relatives the ones I have are of diverse origin mostly other Hyderabadis but also Tamil/Keralite Hindus and Christians and oddly like said in my other post Upper caste North Indians which was the biggest suprise. Most of my family migrated to Karachi post-partition.

Doesn't seem high abnormally high SW Asian. The Med is kinda high. Seems like UP Muslim results.

Came across something interesting - Dakhnis/Deccanis are considered a martial race of India. I would think because of their reputation as mercenaries for the Marathas and the Nizam's forces, which served in the World Wars.

Ultimately from the word for right, which facing east, becomes south.

Hyderabadi troops were prominent in both world wars. Captain Mateen Ansari, an officer related to the Asaf Jahi dynasty was captured in the fall of Hong Kong and tortured to death by the Japanese troops after he refused to denounce allegiance to the British.

Nizam Forces' Commander Maj Gen El Edroos was of Arab ancestry, and moved to Pakistan after the merger of Hyderabad with India. His son still lives in Islamabad.
