Gorillas and chimps eat their own poop to redigest their food and because they don't get enough nutrients from the plants they eat in one swallowing.

If you want to listen to our chimp ancestors why not start by eating your own feces? . I joke, but we are clearly evolved to be different.

There are nearly a billion people in India alone who religiously live on plant based diet and Indians been doing this for thousands of years, if their diet was that deficient in nutrients they would had long disappeared from the face of earth. Again most people regularly eat salad, fruits and smoothies, do you think all that simply goes to the waste? Humans cook their food to make the nutrients available for absorption. You don't have to eat your poop, just cook your food.

I think he was pointing out one of the world's biggest populations who eat less meat than others, and only in the most recent generation has seen heart disease from a shit diet coupled with smoking as the number one killer, not for lack of nutrition that kills most of them.

India is the perfect case study for why plant based doesn't work for humans. They supplement their diet heavily with milk and eggs. They tried going vegan and failed over and over again. If we were meant to only eat plants like our chimp ancestors , then surely India would actually prove it but they don't. Heck most aren't even vegetarian and it's limited to wealthy privileged elite

We often assume Indians are largely vegetarian, but that assumption doesn't hold up against data. A 2006 survey by the Delhi-based Center for the Study of Developing Societies found that more than 50 percent of Indians are in fact non-vegetarian. They eat fish, chicken, beef and, yes, eggs, too. Vegetarianism is often limited to privileged, upper caste Hindu communities and a couple of other religions, like Jainism.

We cook meat for example not to make the nutrients available to us. Infact there are more nutrients in raw meat. We can eat raw meat and drink milk raw but we just prefer not to for safety and contamination reasons. Whereas we cook certain plants for example legumes, potatoes etc to break down the toxins in them. We''ll die if we eat many of them raw. But most of the nutrients aren't very absorbable by humans even after that. Do this experiment for yourself . Eat a piece of steak and a piece of corn and see what comes out the other end and it wont be the steak you ate. So yeah a lot of it goes out the back barely digested.

You have tried hard but unfortunately your knowledge of real India is near nil. Most Indian population lives in villages and most have no excess to fish, many have not ever seen one live or dead. Yes, they are lacto-vegetarians, but most have no excess to milk and milk products, only milk most of them consume is in their tea.

Delhi or any other city is like any other city in the world. Delhi have high population of Muslims+Christians etc. who consume meat. Most Indian don't consume eggs, chicken etc. either. That study surely is flawed.

There are people in this world who only eat Vegs and fruits and some even eat fruits only, why not do a study on them to find out if such nutrient deficiencies do exist. In the new world and the old world where most eat all kinds of animal products, yet, one can find vitamins and minerals supplements virtually in every corner store, who are these supplements for?

Can you name the vital nutrients that vegetarians are found deficient in?

Did you even read the article i linked? A lot of Indians are actually malnourished and many of them are trying to petition against the Vegetarian elite , so they can include more eggs into their diets. It's the vegetaranian elites more often than not that are preventing them from consuming more. Voluntary vegatarianism is a diet aimed at affluence.

In India, however, there is a vast difference between what people would wish to consume and what they have to consume because of innumerable barriers around caste, religion, culture, cost, geography, etc. Policymakers in India have traditionally pushed for a cereal-heavy “vegetarian diet” on a meat-eating population as a way of providing the cheapest sources of food.

"We still have very high malnutrition," says Dipa Sinha. "Every third Indian child is malnourished."

As a result, 38 percent of children under the age of 5 are stunted. About 1 in 5 women and men are underweight, with a similar proportion being either overweight or obese, especially in urban settings.

Anemia affects almost 60 percent of children ages 6 to 59 months, more than half of women between 15 to 49 years old, and almost 1 in 4 men in that same age group. Subclinical vitamin A deficiency in preschool children is 62 percent and is closely associated with malnutrition and poor protein consumption
INDIA SHOWS WHY THE GLOBAL SHIFT TO PLANT-BASED DIETS IS DANGEROUS

And that study i linked covered all of India not just Delhi. Nice try. Thanks for stating what's obvious because it shows that many are not vegetarians by their own design but because of lack of availability and many will eat animal based foods when its available. India is far from vegetarian utopia people try to make it out to be and it actually shows opposite.

Vegetarians have been commonly found to be deficient several key nutrients like Iron, Zinc, Calcium, Omega 3 fatty-acids, Vitamin D and Vitamin B-12 etc. In the new world their diet is mainly plant based with where carbs take up majority of their diet, adhering to the govt push against meat and fat. Not exactly the best example. I don't get why you are even bringing up supplements into this, why do vegans/vegetarians need to take supplements to get adequate nutrition if we are like our chimp ancestors? Weren't you saying that

You have missed the whole point. Those who don't eat right will have deficiencies, no matter if they are vegetarians or carnivorous.

You are linking me self published plant based propaganda sites? Thats prove it. We are chimps.

In all seriousness it's not true. Compare the consumption of Plant based milk vs Cow Milk . And the plant milk substitutes was shown to cause severe nutritional defiencies.

[Severe nutritional deficiencies in young infants with inappropriate plant milk consumption]

Milk alternative beverages expose infants to severe nutritional deficiencies. Serious complications can occur. Early, exclusive, and extended use is riskier. These diseases are preventable, and parental education should be provided. Statutory measures forbidding their use in young infants should be organized to slow down the progress of this social trend.

The reality is that you can meet your nutritional requirements more easily and readily on animals foods than plant foods.

Why would it matter where the information comes from as long as it is correct?

Now go through these two links:

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3662288/
    https://www.drmcdougall.com/2013/12/...the-rice-diet/

It is not about chimps and gorillas nor it is about India vs USA, it is only about plant based diet if it is deficient in nutrients or not.
