Eastern European and Iberian help on gedmatch. Thank you

Newton gedmatch and I'm trying to solve a family mystery.

Here are my updated 23andMe results to give an idea of known ancestry. (My previous results had 45.8% British, 12.8 French and German):

    69.3 British/irish, 0.4 finnish, 4.4 broadly nweuropean, 14.4 eastern European, 7.5 Italian, 0.3 Spanish Portuguese, 1.5 broad southern eu, 2.2 broadly eu

After initially doing 23andme, I uncovered that my dadís grandfather was not his grandfather and that my dad was a quarter Eastern European (my dad did Myheritage and has about 28.8 EE, 1.9 Baltic, and I have 21.6% EE on MyHeritage, his brother did ancestry and is 14% Europe/ Russia and 9% Baltics, FamilytreeDNa gave me 2% Magyar).

Now a new mystery - MyHeritage gave me 15% Iberian, but my dad 0% and my mom 2.6%. My mom has known 1/8 Sicilian heritage but this did not show up, however in 23andMe our Italian shows up (11% for my mom), and we each have less than 1% Iberian. Ged match gives me 19% Iberian, which I understand could partially be English ancestry, but seems high based on what I've read. I also got several Spanish and Portugal matches on oracle. My dad got 17% Iberian and my mom 9.9% Iberian. my dad did not get any Spain or Portugal results in oracle and my mom got one for Spanish Cataluna.

I have gone through DNA relatives pretty extensively on MyHeritage and 23andMe, but not yet on Gedmatch. Not many EE or Iberian on 23andMe, but my dad has about 1367 EE matches and 1391 Iberian matches on MyHeritage. 497 Baltic.

If it gives any clues, my grandfather had tan, olive skin.

My biggest questions for now are where might the unknown great grandparent be from based on these results? And is this significant Iberian? Also, can these gedmatch results help resolve the discrepancies in German/ Western Europe between all testing platforms. I have only 1/16 known Western European ancestry (Bavaria, Germany), yet Ancestry gives me 23% germanic Europe, 23andme gave me 12.8% before the update and is now 0, and MyHeritage 47.7 West and north eu.

I also realize paternal haplogroup would help. Trying to get my dads other brother to do 23andme and get a haplogroup. My dad is on a medication and can't spit, so did MyHeritage swab. If anyone knows a workaround for that let me know.

Here are K13 and K36. Tell me if I need to post others. I also did the map for K36.

I wouldn't trust MH currently, it often gives odd results. My dad gets 8.9% Iberian, but neither my sister nor I get any, and none of us get any significant amounts on any other commercial test. Based on that plus paper research, I don't think my dad is actually Iberian at all.

Calculator results alone wont be overly helpful. You're better off trying to look for Iberian matches that all triangulate along a certain segment. In conjunction with calculator results, I've managed to triangulate a large number of matches who likely all share a common Iberian ancestor on my grandfather's side. These matches are a mix of Spaniards, South Americans, Sephardic Jews and Western Europeans.

Thank you. I have a lot to look at in your thread. Very cool you were able to find your ancestor - that is inspiring. Do you recommend I try the G25 calculator? I am just beginning to learn triangulating, and have gotten the Gedmatch upgrade to use their triangulation tool. Is it possible to view segment data by ethnicity on MyHeritage or Gedmatch? I have found the chromosome painting tool on 23andMe, but they give me low Iberian and I don't understand how to extract the segment data.

Getting your G25 coordinates wouldn't hurt. There are lots of calculators and tools to play around with, which may be helpful in conjunction with finding matches. G25 in general is fun to have, regardless of what you're looking for.

MyHeritage doesn't have an ethnicity segment option. GEDMatch has a chromosome painting option for each calculator, which can be used to look at triangulated segment regions you find on MyHeritage.

As in purchasing a Family Finder kit from FTDNA? More data always helps (especially matches which may not be on 23andMe), however the new V3 update has led to a mixed bag of results for people. It may give you more questions than answers.

This is a comparison of myself with a match who has primarily Iberian descent.

Is this what I should be looking for in terms of matching with Iberian relatives?

This is too vague and doesn't tell you anything useful, because you're looking at all 22 chromosomes, and not the specific region on a particular chromosome where you match.

A basic overview of what you need to do:

    1. Find matches that triangulate along a certain segment on a chromosome. Below are two videos which will be helpful:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGlyuoHRnsA&t=206s
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ceYGv6RNfDE

    2. Then, use the chromosome painting tool and choose 1 chromosome, so you can look at it in detail, as you want to use the segment length information (i.e. 50000000-60000000) from triangulation to see what populations are within this region, i.e Baltic, North Atlantic etc. For example many Jews will match along a segment that will be majority East Med.

Basically, once/if you find a bunch of matches that triangulate in a certain spot, you want to see what populations are scored in this region, as that can provide an idea about shared ancestry/origins. Its important to note though, that there are pileup regions on certain chromosomes, which are more likely to be general shared ancestry, and therefore there isn't a common, recently shared ancestor.
