If it wasn't then she had an overactive imagination, but if it was then it's likely to be a 3rd-5th great grandparent. It wouldn't make up a significant chunk of my DNA. But I don't care: I just want to know.

I did get European matches, mostly from Scandinavia and Finland.

I got some interesting Spanish, Portuguese and Italian ones, but it's inconclusive. They were on MyHeritage and GEDmatch only:

I'm not saying it isn't true, because in the short time I've been talking to you about this and reading about your genetic heritage, the only thing I'm certain about is uncertainty.

But one thing I've learned here and in my years of genealogy: many our ancestors made up crazy things for what seems to be no logical reason. It seems really common. My grandfather would go on and on about red-haired Irish ancestors coming from county Cork. No Irish ancestry, no connections to Cork or even the south of Ireland at all. Just weird stuff he wanted to believe.

I've read a bunch of other people's similar stories here over the years. One of my favorites was about a woman who insisted she was native American and finally on her deathbed she admitted that she made it up, because it made her feel special.

People say weird things. My brother really likes German history, his wife, before they were married, told him her grandmother was German. One day at a family dinner in the future, my dad asked her mom about their German heritage, and she replied "What are you talking about, my mother was from Scotland"
She confessed to making it up because she really wanted him to like her.

Sometimes there's a bit of truth in it, or it's been thrown off a little. My mother in law thought she was part native American growing up. We got her a DNA test to check this. No native American. I dug really far into her family tree - what I found was interesting, fairly far back, one of her ancestor's siblings married into a native American community and took a native American name. Not related to her line directly, but I could see how that story came to be.

I'm pretty skeptical. But, hey, sometimes family lore is true. I definitely think this sort of thing is absolutely fascinating.
