FamilyTreeDNA merging with pharmacogenetic company myDNA

    Press release: https://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...301202798.html

Not sure what the implications are for FTDNA, but synergies could potentially lead to economies of scale and reduction of costs. Whether those will be passed on to consumers in the form of lower test prices is another question.

Yeah...right. I would not expect much on lowering the prices anytime soon.
I wish however the new board make the FT drop their myOrigin efforts (this may drop the prices some cents).

IMHO, This appears to be where the current CEO & COO of Gene by Gene/Family Tree DNA are wishing to retire from the day to day running of the operations, but still want to keep a foot in the door. Both of the individuals have been at their posts for over 20 years and they have reached an age where they probably want to spend less time at work.

While I do have concerns about a pharmacogenetic company CEO running the operations of FTDNA, it is encouraging to hear where myDNA has been around since 2007 so has been in the field for over a decade.

With any luck at all, the new CEO would (hopefully) be able to fix what I have seen as the weakest link at FTDNA: The IT Department.

I find it a bit strange honestly. A small Australian company that we never hear of takes over FTDNA? I hope for the best, but I don't have a good feeling about this.

Slightly concerned on the 'with immediate effect'. No suggestion of any form of proper handover leads me to question whether this is solely a purchase of the database in order to flog other stuff to us.

Hopefully we'll get some sort of reassurances by email in due course and better still they look to run it as is and continue within the ancestry sector.

    Appreciate the heads up.

The financial statement says 2015. Maybe their business has been booming the last couple of years?
