I open this thread to share researches about I-Y14722 haplogroup and his subclades.

According to FamilyTreeDNA i have the subclade : I-BY100859.

I am currently documenting myself on it.

Thanks to http://scaledinnovation.com/gg/snpTracker.html and https://phylogeographer.com/mygrations/ we can see theorical migrations of Haplogroups.

As for I-Y14722 we obtain theses maps :

These tools are very interesting. But I don't understand few things.

Why geolocation for HG I-Y14722 is different on both tool ?
Is geolocation reliable on these tools ? I think that it depends on the number of samples ?

I would like to estimate in which ancient population were my paternal lineage.
There is no doubt that it has belonged to atlantic bronze age which covered the atlantic façade.

But after how is it possible to know ?

Welcome to the Anthrogenica forum.

One reason for the differences may be the data source - SNP Tracker was developed by Rob Spencer and uses the samples at FTDNA as source data, while Phylogeographer/Mygrations was developed by Hunter Provyn and uses the samples at YFull as source data. FTDNA has the largest Y-DNA customer database, but there are some samples that are at YFull that are not at FTDNA - WGS testers, academic study samples, ancient DNA. YFull's tree also only includes NGS tests while FTDNA's database includes partially tested individuals (ie, folks who have done SNP packs but not Big Y).

Both these mapping tools are great endeavors but both have some of the same limitations - low sample size and the locations are self reported by testers. Nevertheless, they are both pretty useful and nice tools.
