    Do you think there's any African there? I have North African in the paper trail so I think maybe the kit is skewing that way. Let me clarify by saying my ancestor I believe was from Morocco/the Canary Islands. So that may lead to confusion.

    The HGs are either pygmy like stretching from the rainforests of Cameroon, Gabon and the Congo or are San-like, like the South-African bushmen e.g. Khomani-San, Ju'Hoan, etc. It surprising that if this minor ancestry is real, that you've only inherited the HG ancestry because it almost always comes in a package with west-central African ancestry. Do you have any Afrikaaners in your paper trail? This would be the only plausible explanation. I haven't been able to detect North-African ancestry, maybe your NA ancestor was just Southern-European but born in the Maghreb?

    Oh wow; it seems that this is consistent thing. My 23andme gave me SE africa on it so I wonder if that could be similar to this. I do have Polish ancestors and Italians who worked in Africa in the 19th century. The G25 however is based on my AncestryDNA which overestimated my northern European component immensely. I do think that it is real only because it keeps recurring in tests. If you remove that then what's the next highest african group I get?

    I am wondering if anyone can pickup Canary island dna in my kit. Also, if anyone has knowledge of current Canarian dna and samples in Cubans or in modern day Canarians.

    How much SE-Africa does 23andme assign you? Can you share the results? HG ancestry is often a packaged within the SE-Africa category for what its worth.

    Here's what I get running individuals for you which is what I prefer. Interestingly you get Maasai, if Maasai are removed then other EA surrogates take its place. What I don't get is if it were Egyptian or North-African you would be getting amounts of Arabian or Berber along with it. So if this isn't noise then it isn't intermediated by Egyptians/North-Africans but rather is a direct ancestral contribution at some point [most likely your ancestors working in 19th century Africa intermingling with a local] I guess. Do you have any more information, like where they worked etc? Italians had and continue to have a presence in coastal East-Africa.

    I don’t have it right now but it Gabe me similar percentage (as did Hebe plaza) for Tanzania/Kenya. I believe they were working in Tanzania and Eritrea. So you think it’s a direct ancestor? That would make sense

    Tanzania makes sense, and yeah I think so. Might be worth getting various lines in your family tested to see if any haplogroup has survived. I don't like using penalties for people with various ancestral streams but I gave it a go and was surprised by this:
