    Campbells and Macdonalds

I mentioned a possible connection to the Earls of Argyll to my father, a few days ago. He couldnít find the details but hoped it wasnít the Campbells. Thatís because heís
been officially adopted into the MacDonald Clan and they are historic enemies!

Autosomally, I've got them both from my mother and father. For the tiebreaker - on my Y-line it's Campbell/McIver. And McKenzie.

Wait, does this mean I must hate myself???

I descend from Campbells on my mother's side.

When I was a teen I had a boyfriend who was a McDonald. His father hated me and I don't know why. His father was a jerk and so was my boyfriend. Good riddance to them.

edit: I have Ulster Scot and Scottish ancestry (Presbyterian), among other European ethnicities. By ex boyfriend, the McDonald, said they were originally O' MacDonalds, from Ireland, and they were Roman Catholic. The boyfriend's mom was Italian. The father was mixed Irish, German, Native American (?), and Amish.

There's also a discussion of the event in Josephine Tey's Miss Pym Disposes (being a Campbell reflects badly on one suspect).

I tried but failed to find a recording of Jeannie Robertson's rendition of "The Bonnie Hoos of Airlie," a topical song for one side in this little tiff. In which Argyll was a right bastard, if you asked Lady Ogilvie; but, hey. I'm from Tennessee and not really mad at any of them. In other news, FTDNA has a Border Reivers project.
