The Genetic Structure of the Turkish Population

A new paper is on the way.

The study conducted by Koç University is based on the samples collected for ALS disease, the samples collected irrespective of their ethnicity are referred to collectively as "Turkish" in the study.

Here is an "ethnicity prediction" spreadsheet where we add each sample's ADMIXTURE and oracle results. You can see the GEDmatch IDs/autosomal DNA profiles, Y-DNA and mtDNA haplogroups. They are being constantly updated: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing

BTW, there are near 800 samples and all of them are WGS. AFAIK, Yfull team is going to upload all of them.

That will add a lot of new content. I already see new uploads coming from this group of samples in nearly every major haplogroup and subclade of West Eurasia. Its unfortunate that not more about the background of the tested people being known, because Turkey is big and its population has a multi-ethnic background. Did they test people from European Turkey too, do you know?

Some of the results strongly suggest Turks of European origin; whether they're from European Turkey, or Balkan Turks resettled to Anatolia within the last several generations, I can't say.

All the testers are proximately from Istanbul and Ankara—I've heard rumors that there is MDKA geographical and ethnolinguistic info on file somewhere; I sure hope it gets added.

Nice to see some diverse results. What I noticed is that the https://www.yfull.com/tree/N-P43/ is flooded with samples from this study (which are unrelated individuals), this is also in line with the Turkish DNA project, where this is a major branch.

So far it concentrates on https://www.yfull.com/tree/N-VL73/
With this TMRCA we are looking for a major event in Late Antiquity, about 200-300 years AD.

I agree, that is a general issue with the genetic studies conducted for Turkish population. That is why we had to collect our own samples.

It is not clear how exactly they obtained these samples but there are individuals with Balkan Turkish and native Balkan-like genetic profile. It is said that the background information (hometowns of grandparents and etc.) of the samples was also registered but we don't know if they are going to provide this info when the paper is published.

Thank you, interesting. I'm mostly interested in new J2a-PF5087 YFull samples like those not yet in the spreadsheet:
SRS8752348, SRS8752362, SRS8752792, SRS8752598, SRS8752861 (from the numbers I assume they are from the same study?)

I also hope ethnic and geographic! details might be released, to have a better research possibility!
