    Question X2c in Europe

I started this thread to fish for a bite from anyone who happens to have any information about the frequency of this haplogroup in Europe. I saw an article once that said it was found in a Viking burial site in Denmark, but I haven't found much else.

The table says that one of the remains in the Viking burial site at Galgedil, dated ~1000 CE, was mtDNA X2c, a female between ages 20-30. X2c appears to have had a diffuse geographic range throughout Europe but its frequency is capped at 0.11%. See: http://www.plosone.org/article/info%...l.pone.0002214 (Table 1)

Coincidentally X2c occurs once among the Polish Roma in this study: http://www.zgms.cm.umk.pl/prace/195-206.pdf

It might be helpful to include this map as well to explain the general diffusion of mtDNA X from a 2012 paper: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/arti...3/figure/fig2/

here is also some data: http://ianlogan.co.uk/sequences_by_g..._sequences.htm

    I also have a X2c match:

    Female
    4th to Distant Cousin

Several of my cousins in the Finland Project are X2c. They all seem to be related to me via my mother's side via paper trail genealogy.

Also, one X2c1 in 23andMe that is listed as 3rd to 4th cousin and he is obviously coming from my father's mother's side and that is all from the area of the Tornio / Torneå River Valley. [He shows zero in common with my mother].

He shows with me: .31% shared on 4 segments [23 cM].

BTW, Galgedil is probably a reference to the word "gallows".

My wife is X2c1a (mutation 16108T). Our four children are X2c as well. Very few matches and only HVR1 (Northern Ireland, Wales, Denmark ..). The female line of my wife ends in Le Mans/Sarthe (France) around 1848 with Sophie Chapeau. According to Eupedia X2 exists nearly everywhere in Europe, but at very low level (highest level in Romania 5%, Greece 4.5% .... France 1.5%).

I have an autosomal match on FF that gives his maternal haplogroup as X2b. But it is a 5th - distant cousin. I wish more of those matches on FF would divulge their haplogroups, though. As of now, I have 151 autosomal matches.

My wife has two matches on 23andMe Relative Finder: X2c1a (5.3 cM from Wales), X2c1 (5.4 cM at least partly from Sweden).

I have also two matches myself: X2c1a (7.5 cM, Mexican sounding name), X2c1 (6.4 cM from England).

No X2c matches on FTDNA Family Finder. By the way, there is a Haplogroup X project on FTDNA with some additional information.

Unless something has changed, FF folks won't have any haplogroups shown, unless they've also done Y or mtDNA testing at FTDNA, so there is nothing for them to divulge.

I know this is an older thread, I was drawn to look in this section because of another recent post in the mtDNA X section. :-) I came across this the other day on 23andMe forum. https://medium.com/p/24fa9626c680 It seems to be a pretty thoughtful account by the writer to connect her mtDNA of X2c1 with the Mennonites.
