Well, it'll certainly be interesting, if not useful, when anyone outside of our little circle here opts in.....

Well, if it's any comfort to those who haven't gotten the update because they don't meet the criteria -- I do meet the criteria, and yet haven't gotten the update either.

What's annoying about the whole deal, though, is that they don't accept the idea that they might be wrong. Someone who currently shows less than 10% from continental Europe might actually have more than that -- and this might even be shown in a new and (hopefully) improved update.

If Ancestry were to do the same thing -- only offer an update to customers with at least 10% from continental Europe -- I would not be getting one. Why? Not because I don't have at least that amount, but because Ancestry's analysis is simply wrong.

I base this mainly on my paper trail, but also from the results I've gotten from other companies.

You can see that there is some consistency across the companies on some regions, but definitely not on all. For example, everybody can see that I have some Iberian ancestry except AncestryDNA; and everybody can see I have a tiny amount of "Indigenous American" ancestry except LivingDNA.

The bottom line is, the testing companies have to be aware of this discrepany. Each may believe it has the best reference panels, the best algorithm; but each also has to know that the differences between company analyses can sometimes be quite wide. So for LivingDNA to make this 10% rule is nothing but arrogance. I'm afraid they may also use a greatest to least rule -- so I'll likely get my update eventually, but since their analysis has me at only 23.1% non-UK/Ireland, it may be awhile. The reality, backed up both by testing at other companies and -- more importantly -- a good paper trail, is that over half of my ancestry is from outside the UK and Ireland.

    Gimme my update, LivingDNA!
Besides British-German-Catalan, ancestry includes smaller amounts of French, Irish, Swiss, Choctaw & another NA tribe, possibly Catawba. Avatar picture is: my father, his father, & his father's father; baby is my eldest brother.

In the last week they have added a filter to pull out the matches who are sharing their maps. I have almost 600 total matches and 5 are sharing.
